I've searched but can't find... using stock intake tube on NA turbo?
I could have sworn I saw somebody with a simple turbo setup, retaining the stock intake tube, mounting a BPV where the "resonator" goes on the side of the throttle body, and the factory intake pipe went to the turbo..
But now I can't find the pic/setup... Is this something people do? I've got a stock SR turbo laying around with o2 housing, some braided oil lines from past projects, and the wife wants the miata to have more pep... So I'm thinking about doing a simple 5psi homebrew, but I was curious if I can just reuse that pipe... |
The black plastic accordion? That breaks/blows up/does all sorts of bad things under boost man.
|
Yup thats the tube I'm talking about... I could have SWORN I saw somebody using it on here... Maybe I was drunk...

cxracer is, and I have. I think that's his name. Dunno if he's doing the BOV thing, but I did. Worked great with some zip ties in the accordion piece to help with the expansion. 5psi is great, although above that is too much.
Here ya go. It's mainly about the rattle, but the first video shows the zip tie thing. Unfortunately I don't think I have pics of my setup when I had the BOV in place of the resonater.

Before: I also ended with a shot of Curly's trick of zip-tying the intake tube After adjustment: Not that much of a change. I tried to show how I can flex the arm and get the rattle but it's a little hard to hear. |
Or you could just spend like 50 bux and get some aluminum piping on ebay and a couple couplers and do it RIGHT.
|
Well, if you're doing it RIGHT, it'll be around $150. Seriously, the first "miata intercooler kit", buy it now, that includes pipes, clamps, and an intercooler, is from cxracing and costs $143.
A used DSM plastic BOV costs $20. |
Thanks Curly... What BOV were you running in that resonator location? Was it a DSM BOV with a custom mount? Because if thats the case i'll use the evo8 BOV i have laying around lol
|
Just a standard Bosch valve...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Bosch-Bypass...9abec0&vxp=mtr As the add says, comes with a lot of Saabs, Porsches, Audis, etc. Basically any turbo car from the 80's and 90's, that had a BOV. no custom mount, I just clamped it where I removed the resonator chamber. I believe I clamped a piece of hose between the two, lightly of course because the intake side is fairly thin plastic. |
