max boost that can be run On a 1.8 without an IC

how much boost can safely be run on a 1.8 motor without a Intercooler, Is the limit 7-8psi , how much should timing be retarded to say run it streetable like for say one to two weeks. I was thinking of doing it the greddy way.

On the 1.6 greddy kit 6psi at 6* timing were recommended. Why take the chance and run it this way when you don't really have to. Get an I/C sorted out, you'll be happier.

or get a WI kit

timhill78 02-04-2007 11:43 PM

Don't you hav an intercooler?

TurboMiatKid 02-04-2007 11:50 PM

Did you sell both of them? Just boost it untill it explodes.:skid: :eek4:

bripab007 02-04-2007 11:53 PM

I ran ~7psi intercooled for some time (a couple months). Ran 6° base before getting the Bipes, but that pinged a bit still. Ran 12° base and pulled to ~4-5° later with the Bipes.

I wouldn't boost over 6psi without an intercooler. You're going to have to retard to timing like mad and make your EGTs skyrocket.

SamS 02-05-2007 12:14 AM

I ran 6psi for ~6 months. Base timing 14, bipes pulled to 6 degrees.

RicanmiataRacer 02-05-2007 08:38 PM

Ok then It's just A ?, I have a Intercooler ready to install(12x9x2.5) But I still dont know how the hell im going to get 2.5 inch ic piping to fit with the a/c and p/s pump in the way...I just dont see how, its really crowded

SamS 02-05-2007 08:44 PM

I used 2.5" pipes but removed my AC prior to installing the intercooler. The way my pipes are routed would not work with the AC compressor. Sorry I don't have any pics of my pipes on my pc and my car's 2 blocks away in the -15 degree weather.

RicanmiataRacer 02-05-2007 08:46 PM

Is it hard to remove the A/C and how much extra room would I have to play with?

can this be a one day project?

SamS 02-05-2007 08:48 PM

I didn't remove any of the parts in the dash, but what I did wasn't hard, maybe an hour or so. It's also a good way to remove weight before you add the weight of the I/C.

Edit: are you sure you'd rather sacrifice AC in florida than just use smaller pipes before the intercooler?

RicanmiataRacer 02-05-2007 08:50 PM

but since I have both p/s and a/c I haft to get a belt for ps only don't I?

SamS 02-05-2007 08:51 PM

Yeah you need to buy the shorter belt for miatas with p/s and without ac. Most parts stores will have it in stock.

Braineack 02-05-2007 10:59 PM

Buy Stripes piping kit for $225. It will take minimal effort to adapt it to your turbo. I'm talking minimal.

SamS 02-05-2007 11:12 PM

C'mon, don't you want to see him suffer in the FL humidity with no AC?:gay:

Kelly 02-06-2007 01:40 AM

15-20 psi with water injection easily.

I have one i bought from FM lol. Their price was competitive and i added it onto an order i made one time. Of course i then decided to not retain PS.

I'd like to see that:eek4:
