Default mitsu 16g question

Did this turbo come on any U.S cars or was it only found in the JDM market?

No they didn't. 1G DSM 5 speeds came with 14bs. Autos came with 13Gs.

The US Evo comes with a 16G variant.

Not 16Gs though. 14bs on the 5 spds, 13Gs on the autos.

Only early generation (during the time of the 1g dsm) 16g's came on a very rare JDM GVR4 (Came with the 16g and yellowtop injectors) and the early evo's.

No US spec mitsu's came with a 16g until the EVO8.

Okay thanks so there is not US market car came with turbo...

Guess that why they are harder to come by than the t3's.

A rebuilt can be had for about $450, guess I go that route when the time comes.

The compressor efficiency graph for these looks sweet!

You are wrong. All 1G 5 speed TSi's came with a 14b (and 450cc blue top injectors), doesnt matter awd or fwd. And all the the auto's came with 13g's (with 390's).

Noone said it was hard to come by, but it never came stock on any dsm here, so its not like they can exactly be had super cheap either.

I see used 16g's going for as little as $100 from time to time.. you just gotta check the DSM forums.. there's always some guy jumping from a 16g to a GT35r.. and still only running a SAFC.. :loco:

GT35R on a SAFC? Is that what you are implying he will do?

SAFC on a 16g is fine I guess. You won't get the max performance, but if you have a logger and are watching everything it will be fine. We ran a 20G with a TMO Chip, logger and SAFC with no issues, hks 272/272 cams. Of course the performance was at least 30whp off of what you could get with a standalone, but it still worked.

Until the Antilag + Stutterbox + No lift to shift blew up the tranny after a few (20?) hard launches.

That car ruined every other car for me, nothing feels fast anymore. Never even took it to the strip to see what it would run.

I learned alot from that car, but will never do things ghetto again like that car was. Car was ******* SCARY on stock 1 piston calipers. 2 pistons came on the 93+.

Standalones rule, the first power performance mod on my miata will be a megasquirt. **** SAFC.

Nester,

The big 16G just doesn't look as good for a miata applications and the small will put out all the power I need.

If you can get small 16gs new or rebuilt send me a pm with pricing I will be in the market for one this summer, once the MS is fully installed.

By the way hows your setup running, how are you handling fuel and spark?

the small 16g is more expensive than the big 16g.. i have the biggest 16g made, and it spools mid 3k..

the spool difference between the small and big is so small, it doesn't make sense to buy a small for 550 when you can buy a big for 450...

my setup runs well, i am using the emanage for fuel and spark for now.. moving to hydra very shortly..

I will be dynoing before and after between the hydra and the emanage... I am hoping to pick up some mid range by messing with the VVT.

I made 160whp on 5psi on a dyno dynamics dyno last year, which translates in to who knows what on a DynoJet, I would guess 170-175.. The car ran a 9.0 in the 1/8th and a 14.2 in the quarter, at like 94mph, with a 1.7 60'.

The plan is to put the hydra in, some 550cc injectors, the new clutch I have sitting on a shelf, and turn the boost up until the stock rods say "PEACE OUT, HOLLA BACK" and then build it bigger and better.

I think the trans will go before the stock motor does.
