Well, I had this done last weekend, but never got the pics taken. Weirtech flanges and Ace Stainless weld els FTW. After welding I took it to work and had one of the guys mill the flange flat for me. It probably would have been OK, but now I don't have to worry about it.

Wow, that looks really good!

Saml01 12-15-2008 09:18 AM

Nice welds.

One off, or considering a production run?

total cost not including G-jobs?

Saml01 12-15-2008 10:39 AM

Stien, how did you make the holes in the pipes so 2 and 3 can merge into 1 and 4?

If Stephanie would ever ship me my Zoom3 I could get to it.

Definitely a one off. I'll never do another stainless weld el manifold. Way too tough to saw and grind.

Weirtech flanges are $22 and $12 respectively, six weld els $32, so $66 plus another $20 or so for shipping.

I just checked and Ace Stainless has lowered the prices more since I bought mine. Now down to $5.05 each for the 1 1/2"

Ace Stainless

I anyone decides to build one, I have two els left over that they can have for the price of shipping.

That part really sucked, especially in stainless. Drilled a 3/4" hole and hogged it out with a carbide burr in an air die grinder. I taped the shop vac in #1 and taped off #4 and ran it the whole time. Those carbide burrs throw off nasty needle burrs. The vac worked well.

One of these days someone will have to teach me how to reply to multiple posters in one post.:giggle:

:werd: Just modifying the stud holes on a BP flange to fit the F was torture. And that was with my custom SST. Nice mani job!

I had posted up in-process photos in another thread, but I don't know if everyone saw them there.

Here they are again.

SKMetalworks 12-15-2008 11:11 AM

if you would of used a backing gas an cap the holes you coulda got a nice full penetration weld and not have to do any post grinding as long as you didnt booger it up.

Yeah, but I didn't want to rig up a tee, line, valve just for one stainless job. Like I said, first and last one ever. But you are right, it is the best way to do it.
