Is my Garrett 2871r gonna work?
Typo in the title: 2971r -> 2871r
Got an amazing deal on a partially complete turbo setup (2871r, Kraken top mount, full 3” exhaust, clutch, injectors, etc) for my extremely-clean 2005 base. My current plans are to run with the stock engine and 5 speed for a little while and save up for forged internals for my VVT and a 6 speed trans. I am worried about the stock rods and 5 speed, so I was thinking of capping the boost and making 200whp for street with a switch to activate ~240whp when I want a little more. My question is this: I am super aware that this turbo is overkill for a 200-250whp setup. Will it be drivable / enjoyable? I simply don’t have the cash to go full send on a built engine + 6 speed and like the idea of 300-350whp in the future, so might as well live with a laggy turbo for a bit. Thoughts?
Car in question on the right. ND is also mine, but it is more track focused.

There are a bunch of 2871 variants. The 48trim compressor for example is quite nice at stockish bottom-end-limit power levels. It will come on later than a t25 but should have slightly better top end. The standard 56 trim isn't ideal at that power, but it will still function there without issue.
