My Spark Map now with "Death Cans" :)

We trimmed my spark table using my home made det cans.

Please comment.

Goal was to make it safe for boost but more woik needs to be done especially (still) on AE, tip in, pesky idle dip etc. :crx:

Happy holdays

Damn you in Florida, tuning your car in Dec.

Can you take a screenshot of your timing map? My TS gives several errors when opening that msq (diff firmware version, etc). If you put up a screenshot that would help us lazy people out.

Dam! What is that white stuff on your mariner blue ?!!

I'll try for a screen shot

Try this

18psi 12-19-2013 10:52 AM

why 20* at idle? that's way too much timing, you need like 14
also 25* past 100kpa on pump gas is brave, is your engine built?

overall a fairly aggressive map if you ask me. but not bad. these motors obviously take lots of timing with no issues

pdexta 12-19-2013 10:54 AM

Is the motor all stock? 1.8? 1.6?

Did you advance it until you got knock and then back it down or just verified that you weren't getting knock with this map? Thanks for posting.

Also, love this top down weather we're having. It's finally cooling off a bit, the high here is only 81 today, lol.

shlammed 12-19-2013 10:57 AM

you sync'd timing with the map locked to 10 degrees, right?

just asking... it looks pretty aggressive...but if it works well and has no issues that's cool.

Braineack 12-19-2013 11:09 AM

19-20° at 12psi isn't "pretty aggressive".

20° at idle is pretty aggressive. get your idle zone back to 10°, this will help with smoothness coming back from idle and prevent stalling, then let adaptive timing control do its thing.

Thanks guys ! I really appreciate the feedback and it makes sense in light of what I have been noticing.

The map is for a 1.6 w Greddy turbo w flebay IC, stock internals running on 93 pump fuel.

We messed w the map on a 85 degree day. I drove while my friend manned the lap top and death cans. We had a long flat road and at successive passes he got enough data points to come up w that map.

Honestly I don’t know why it so darn advanced at and around idle.

We were able to turn up the boost a bit after that map but drivability is rather poor – so it makes sense based on what Brains says.

I haven’t had much time to go back and review it but I check out and post the map that we started with …

Thanks again

I have a hard time visualizing things like this :vash:

But I think I know what you guys are going to say. ;)

I usually run ~14 degrees of timing at idle. It helps my idle be smoooth as possible with the lower res ms1 ecu. I think 10 is what the oem map uses.

Also, to me it seems like you could scale your map to have a little more resolution in boost (only 4 boosted rows?), but I'm not sure if that's even necessary or not. Someone else can chime in on that.

I'm also skeptical about the fact that he re scaled my shit to 220 KPA

I drive like an old lady most of the time. :hs:

Ok, it was easier to just switch MSQs instead of fudging with the map.

This MSQ uses the spark map that is posted above scaled to 180 KPA max. and more benign idle timing

Only thing is that I don't know how knock safe it is without doing the det can process again. :sadwavey:
