OK so i'm back on this :)

I bought some "luxury liner" and heat shielding from second skin.

the luxury liner is a sound absorbing foam and i had to get 9 sq ft at the minimum so i figure i'll lay some down in the trunk and near the firewall area under hte carpeting.

I'll post back in a week or so once i'm all done!

Wow

I get bonners from turbo spooling sound

I received the stuff from second skin and applied it to my makeshift cold air box.

I only drove aroud w/the top up for 2 minutes because its super cold right now but so far it didn't seem to make a damn bit of difference :)

FWIW i put the heat shield on the outside of the box and the luxury liner (closed cell foam) on the inside.

The top of the box is not closed, which is where i think a lot of the noise is coming from.

UPDATE

I drove the car to work today and had an opportunity to take a better listen under different load conditions.

The sound deadening definitely made a difference! Under heavy acceleration the noise is definitely muffled and i'm finally able to hear the exhaust vs just the intake noise.

I'm hoping once I fully enclose the intake (cover the top of the box w/aluminum & deadener) i think it will lower the sound further.

The day I'm annoyed by the sound of my turbo spooling is the day I'll consider myself an old fart getting ready to die

Or for guys who get tired of their wife asking wtf is that noise every time they shift, or why it sounds like a big rig when we hit an on-ramp.

I'm so going stealth BOV and sound deadening for the compressor.

New ARTech exhaust should sound nice, and that's all she needs to hear unless I'm really on it.

Mine makes way to much compressor/bov noise. It sounds like a pissed off air compressor during regular driving. I want it to be civil most of the time, and then open up when I'm driving hard.

This I want to do.

Unfortunately limited by crappy IHI flanged manifold. God I hate that thing. If Abe gets back to me expect to see this crap coming soon to a FS ad near you.

final update, i promise.

I bought a leftover 'prototype' cold air box from begi for a great price. It took some modification to fit, but it's worth it.

I added a couple of mounting plates with 3" hose connectors on them to either side of the cold air box. this allowed me to seal the box, mounting the air filter inside the box to one plate, and the intake hose on the other side to to the other plate.

I also cut out a small section of the box so that my NACA duct feeds directly into the box, and sealed around that cutout with closed cell weather stripping foam.

Finally, i glued a couple of pieces of the luxury liner inside the cold air box, and glued the heat shield material to the outside of the box.

RESULT -- my intake is much quieter!! In the past, full throttle after 3500 rpm became an annoyingly noisy affair. Now it's barely audible at 3500, and even at full throttle it's only a pleasant reminder of the turbo's presence.

Turn your hearing aid down! I run a 3" straight pipe on my car along with a vent through the hood right over the turbo, it's nowhere near embarrassing.

Drive a Honda Civic with a fart can and without resonator for a week, THAT is loud.

That set aside. Why the hell is your car for sale on craigslist? There are only a few of us in Maine. Selling you car is like selling your soul.
