Default Need help and advice

I'm so close to boosting Mia it's intoxicating. I'm closely looking at three turbos as of right now. A buddy has a 2560r he's trying to sell for $50-$100 or there's a T20 I found for $200 and another I've never heard of before, an Airesearch M10 for $150. Can y'all help me with choosing a turbo? Just wanting to make 200-225whp with my setup btw

[T20] (http://m.ebay.com/itm/Garrett-T20-Turbo-Charger-742240-500S-/192282407167?hash=item2cc4ecb0ff%3Ag%3AX5oAAOSwz2t ZmCIr&_trkparms=pageci%253A7f5635c8-85f4-11e7-9376-74dbd1802360%257Cparentrq%253A01b34c2115e0a9c555ce e5b5fffa185a%257Ciid%253A5)

Do me (and everyone else) a favor and type in Garret 2560 into the search bar here...... Then do each of the other turbos and report your findings. You'll find one of those is wildly more popular.

You're so far from boosting a miata, its sobering.

What happened in the time since you posted this?

" Okay, I plan to follow every bit of advice Lars has given me. And I'll probably go for the 1.8 swap then do his turbo kit. "

we seem to be back to square 1

Well, some financials happened and it doesn't look like a 1.8 is going to be economically feasible for me. Plus I more just want to start with this kind of boost. But I am still considerin Lars' kit, even though I just picked up a new exhaust to replace my other that got busted.

Edit: I also had to get a roll bar as well

Holy crap you are going backwards. You purchased a useless exhaust for a turbo. nice.

Im no financial advisor but....If the 1.8 makes it economically difficult, then the turbo game might not be for you right now. Do this instead- 1.8 vvt swap, megasquirt, header, and love your new found 50 hp. then you have a solid base for later.

better yet, sell the 1.6 car and buy a high mileage 99-05 miata. In my opinion, starting with a 1.6 is just throwing money into the bong.

I guess, but to clear things up, the exhaust wasn't my choosing. I hit a rock driving down the freeway at night about a week ago and it put a hole in my cat. And my exhaust was welded to my cat and I had a test pipe laying around so I got a second hand Yonaka for $50. It's honestly quieter than the other one.

A 1:8 really isn't very much I'm picking one up tomorrow just by reading a set of ak flares. Also might be crazy but if your dead setbon bad choices you can buy my 1.6 turbo kit so I can do it right with a 1.8

I don't see how a 1.6 turbo is bad, but I'd need some time. What all do you have in it?

I'm going to switch from nudging, to tough love. You can't afford a turbo miata right now. Pick a new path, one without a turbo.

A natural aspirated miata can be a ton of fun. Don't let that get you down. Going to a vvt from your 1.6 , will be a COMPLETELY different car. It will rip and be totally capable of a top 10 at local scca events.

You see, that's where I'm conflicted. My Mia runs like a wood burning stove, not a single thing wrong with her, plus she's my daily. It just doesn't make much sense to me to swap a VVT right now. Maybe when her engine finally gives out I'll go for it, but I'm really just looking to make a good 150-200whp

Your proving my point even further. It's your daily. You are a SUPER turbo noob. You will ruin it if you choose to turbo now, or inside of a year from now. You cannot afford to blow your car up right now.

you are also failing to realize how fast a bigger, newer motor is.

you have bigger problems though. It's a 1.6 car. So it needs at minimum, a rear end swap (1k). That still leaves you with **** brakes (500 to fix that) . You will need these even with a turd 1.6 set up. So now you are 4k deep into a 1.6. How smart does that sound? I can find a handful of nb1's for less than that.
