New Garrett Turbos (GTW, GTX2971R) Who will be the trailblazer?

I don't have any data to show as of this moment (still looking) but my friend got some new info from the PRI show in Indy that says that Garrett will be releasing a bunch of new turbos and a new GTW line. Supposedly they are cheaper than the GTXs but just as good.

Also, they released a new turbo called the GTX2971R that looks like an interesting option...

Haha the guy that wrote that article is the project lead on my senior design engineering team.

Good to see Garrett expanding the smaller side of their lineup. They need to make a GTX in the 2560-ish range!

GTX4594R or bust.

Fascinating. The quick spool valve in the BW looks tasty, as it means you don't need a real twin-scroll manifold, which are quite rare in smaller power aftermarket manifolds (e.g. all the Miata ones).

Does anyone know what size turbos these quick spool valves will be on?

The reason that twin-scroll manifolds are a rarity in the miata world is mostly because people don't want to pay for it or a turbo that would use it. I know TurboTim has plans for them up on his website.

I had two people wanting to spend the $1000 for my equal length TS. Fortunately for me my hours are back at Jesel cause building that would have sucked.

Turbonectics also had some pretty turbos in our size at PRI. TNX series i believe. I walked by the BW booth before the show when everything was covered up but forgot to go back, oops. but dayum that QSV T4 would be nice.

Precision already had their 4828 which is our size.

Im in the midst of building a t4 twin scroll Miata manifold. :) Its a personal project though, so with all of the customer work I have its on the back of the bench for the time being. This manifold also has tapered runners for big power... but I will leave it at that until I get more time to build it.

From the looks of that quick spool borg warner, you still run a twin scroll manifold... it just dumps one of those scrolls into the other side with the flapper. Borg would have omitted the divider if it were meant for an open scroll manifold.

That type of quick spool valve works nicely. It showed pretty nice results on the '87/'88 Rx7 turbos. Hitachi, I think it was.

The added capability of the turbine was never taken advantage of by adding more compressor capability.
