new here need opinion

hey guys i am 17 and i just bought a 91 1.6 miata 5 speed. i am a muscle car guy i have a 11 sec malibu kinda of a small block chevy person just what i have learned growing up. but i got a deal on this car and drove it and i love it handles great and everything i like about it. but not enouph power and i was just wondering what small things i could do to get it quicker. my cousin said he has a turbo i can have in great shape. small one. and i was wondering how much boost i could push safely on stock motor and what parts i would need. i know intake down pipe but other small stuff any computer work and stuff injectors? just want more power thanks guys for any help.

samnavy 05-12-2008 03:35 PM

As you can imagine, this is probably the most commonly asked question on this board. As that's the case, you can find all the information you're looking for by using the search function. Turbo'ing a Miata is a piece of cake, but you've gotta understand some basic concepts. Very little of your knowledge of large displacement V8's translates into small forced induction 4-cyls.

Do yourself a big favor, stop posting unless it's a thread to introduce yourself in the Meet&Greet forum. Seriously, no more posting for at least a week.
Come back to this board every day for an hour or so and read every single post. In that amount of time, you'll learn just about everything you need to know in order to ask good questions.

To put it bluntly, there is no cheap way to make good power on a Miata. For quality parts, it'll take about $800 to make 150whp. It'll take about $2k to make 200whp. It'll take about $4k to make 250whp. But you can't just bolt 250whp onto a stock Miata... things like tires/suspension/safety/etc... all need to be ironed out as well.

So, no more posting. Lots more reading. Start new post in 1-2 weeks time and ask good questions.

y8s 05-12-2008 04:11 PM

you could just swap the SBC into the miata.

turbotyla 05-12-2008 07:18 PM

sorry for posting just thought some one would help. i didnt mean to make any one mad and i do have a mild 355 in garage with tranny :) thought about it but i still want gas too. i have a 12b turbo and thats it was only wanting to push about 7lbs thats it goal being 30hp gain. i am not a dumb kid i do know what i am talking about. just never messed with smaller engines. sorry if i some how insulted you by useing this forum for what its for. sharing info but i was just wondering if i needed to change timing injectors intercool. for small boost. and if anybody has a kit without turbo and just parts.

go to bellengineering.net, call them up. They could problaly do a kit sans turbo.

samnavy 05-12-2008 08:47 PM

Hey Tyla, you didn't insult me. The purpose of this forum is not to spoon-feed NOOBS. I was trying to give you the tools so that you could learn this stuff for yourself. Just like most automoive forums, there are things called "STICKIES" at the top of every page. You clearly haven't read them. There are also forum "SPONSORS"... you clearly haven't visited them to see their products and learn exactly what parts are out there for turbo'ing a Miata. You probably haven't even Google'd "TURBO MIATA" to see what websites are out there.

Imagine for a second I went to your Malibu forum and said this:
"Hi guys, sorry for the noob post, but I just got this sweet Malibu. Doesn't handle so well, but I think I could use some more power. Can anybody recommend an engine... not too big an engine though cause I my friend already has pistons for me and the pistons are very small and I only want a "little" more power (like only 200whp more). Can anybody recommend an engine without pistons to buy??? How much power can I get on small pistons? I already know everything else I'll need, like gas and oil. Don't worry though, I'm 17 and know everything."

See how it's pretty clear I don't even know enough to ask good questions. If you're really interested in wanting to turbo your Miata, then listen carefully.

wow i never said i knew everything but apperently if i talk to you enough i would. you seem to know everything. i know what stickies are and how forums work i am just new to this one. and i just asking questions. sorry andi have read around here but nothing about a 12b turbo. and sorry i dont have a brand new t4 i am only 17 i dont have money to just drop on a turbo. so i would appriciate if you would stop putting me down for getting on a forum and asking questions sorry i am a noob. but if you did go to the malibu site. the guys there would be alot more helpfull and not as mean as you are. and might tell you to read stickies but wouldnt tell you to not post they would be happy there is another malibu guy out there. but apperently you are mad that i have a miata. sorry for buying one i guess i did something wrong and hurt your man hood by asking a question. you have to make yourself feel better by insulting me. but either way a 12b turbo is small. and i was just asking if i could make it work.

Hey man, go to the Meet and Greet section, and de-noob. Show some pictures, talk reasonably, and try not to ramble. Read, learn, post, and you will be welcomed. :noob:

Congrats on the Miata, Malibu's are for ladies, wait.....:eek5:

OMG you are 17!

Do yourself a favor and take samnavy's advice. Your lucky he responded to your question. A lot of the guys here wont care unless you went and posted in the meet and greet. No body here is talking shit or putting you down. Your taking it the wrong way.

Here read this: https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=4288

Even if you read this before then read it again and again. When you go to sleep read as a bed time story, when you wake read while you eating breakfast, when your watching cartoons read it again. Print it out even and read it while your driving your miata. READ TILL YOU MEMORIZE IT!.............Psssssstttt then come ask questions.

I think you have a death wish. Plus they haven't even started on grammar and puncuation with you yet :bang:

TonyV 05-13-2008 02:01 AM

Yea man it doesnt matter if ur 17 or 71, same rountine...I'm still a noob and I've been here for 2yrs+, and have a turbo car...

Some very knowledgable people on here who have answered ALOT of the same noob questions, and even posted writeups on what/how to do almost everything. Purpose is to share info AND not have to answer the same question 10000000000 times..

I still get caught asking questions that have been discussed many times...may be new to YOU, but not to the forum...

Just think of it as tough love, teaching a man to fish, etc.... Anyway, read, check out the SEARCH feature (up top), and you'll find prop all your answers...THEN if you dont understand, get stuck, etc. it becomes a greater effort to help you out...

Anyway, GL and have fun!!! And welcome!!! (rude fuckerz didnt even do that!)

18psi 05-13-2008 02:19 AM

lol.....another one bites the dust....i must say this forum is a bit more "snappy" when it comes to noobs :giggle:

honest i am mature for my age. and i get the noob questions get old. and i apologize for that. but samnavy was a little to mean about it. and has no reason to be. i guess since i am in a diy turbo section i will just ask. what do you think biulding a small kit around a 12b would get me ? would it even be worth the hassle.

I told you in my 2nd post exactly what a 12b was good for.

And as I have said, I wasn't being mean. I was and still am trying to help you. You need to read and search and read and search and stop posting until you know enough to ask good questions. YOU DON'T KNOW ENOUGH ABOUT MIATA'S YET TO ASK GOOD QUESTIONS. This is not mean, it's designed to help you not make any more stupid fucking posts. I AM TRYING TO HELP!

turbotyla 05-14-2008 03:36 AM

wow your still be hostile to a 17 year old kid. ha well your mature. but either way i take what you say as constructive critism. but your still just a waste i will not post on this anymore. i have somehow made you mad?

no one held a gun to your head and made you read or reply to my post. so stop crying. and i might not know alot about miatas. but i have fixed a few things on it. and i know how cars work. its simple car

On top of that how do you expect me to learn anything. When i ask people who know and they have to go and yell at me for it. they put a string on it so you can pull it out. just stop i have done nothing to you .:fawk:

Man, seriously.. How many times does Sam have to tell you hes not mad at you? Hes not being disrespectful to you. Hes ATTEMPTING TO HELP YOU!

Seriously.

Seriously. Really. Seriously. Read the fucking stickies. How old you are, what you know about cars, how fast your mothers station wagon is.. None of it matters. What matters is your posts asking questions are worthless at this point in time because you have not read the relevant information. Pretty much every question you've asked can be found in a sticky or the "USEFUL POSTS" section.

Here:

https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=10821

Read that Right now. Thats all the info you'll need to know about turbo + miata. Really, Serious.

https://www.miataturbo.net/forum/showthread.php?t=71

That thread will teach you some terms to use, so when you're posting questions about what you've learned from the previous HUGE HUGE HUGE HUGE thread, you won't get flamed again.

Most of the people on this forum are more than willing to help you, but you have to take responsibility and R E A D First, ask questions second. However, I would imagine almost EVERY question you need is likely found in the first thread link, or by using the "SEARCH" feature at the top. After using those two features if you're still confused, or still need further help then would be a good time to post. At that point in time you'll be properly educated on WHAT and HOW to post to achieve your answer.

Oh, and I swear to god... If you ask anything related to installation of a Rotary engine in your Miata I'll personally come to your house, kick down your door and slap the everloving silly shit out of you. No. Just, No.

Good luck, and God Speed.

I think it is due time for a sig and avater mood correction from one of the friendly local moderators...how I wish I had the power, I have something in mind...

samnavy 05-14-2008 05:19 PM

I answered all of your questions and more 2 days ago. Post #6, last paragraph.

Imagine for just 2 seconds yesterday at 1:12am if instead of being a crybaby, you'd said something like this:
"Hey Sam, thanks for the advice. It looks like a 12b would fit my power needs, but it's probably more trouble than it's worth. I've read the stickies and done some homework, but turbo'ing is just really new to me and I have no idea where to start... it's a little overwhelming and some of the vocabulary is beyond me at this point. I'll take your advice and hold off on the posts for week or so. I'll read everything I can and hopefully by then I can start a fresh post in the NOOB section and tell you all about me, my car, and my goals. Thanks for the help."

I'll tell you what. Print out all the posts from the 2 threads you've started and take them to your Dad. Ask him what he thinks. He just might agree with you that we're all really mean, grumpy Miata owners who aren't interested in helping anybody and enjoy picking on innocent NOOBS. However, unless your Dad hosts a show on HGTV, he'll probably slap you across the face and tell you to grow a pair. I promise you can trust your Dads opinion on this.

Now, are you more interested in defending yourself or turbo'ing your car? If you have any more questions other than the ones I answered before, I'll give it my best shot... but first go talk to your Dad.

First off, "samnavy" which I'm assuming is part of the village people based on your name...?

Your sig alone, spells out what a pretentious cock smoking fag you are with obviously more insecurities than a 400lbs woman wondering if her ass is to huge.

As an elder of this forum, you would think that in some form... you would gain some kind of wisdom.

You my friend need to lighten the fuck up, this isn't highschool and you do not have to bully anyone to gain status.

Oh and not sure what Malibu's you guys are thinking of...try 1978-1981...we don't run with neons like you guys...

Oh and I don't like golden showers...you sure are a strange bunch...

Zabac 05-14-2008 06:45 PM

Did this kid go to his Malibu forum and bitch and complain over there as well and got his buddies to join and tell us how rude we are? I would crawl back into my mothers vagina if I ever got that whiney.

Miatabu350 05-14-2008 06:50 PM

Start crawlin' then, because it sounds like your whining...

BenR 05-14-2008 06:56 PM

You guys own malibus! That's soo kwel!

That's soo sweet how you all stick up each other like you're dating.

Vashthestampede 05-14-2008 07:10 PM

lol.....how and the fuck is this even still going on? If your friend came in here and spoke as if he had some education, he might have had a better chance. Not to mention that his question about a 12b turbo is such a fucking joke in itself. He could have learned alot and got some answers without even having to post.

I cant speak for others, but I know when I read someones thread/posts, if there's NO punctuation or grammar of any sort...I feel like ripping my fucking eyes out of my head. :vash: If its too much to ask to take the time to post, then don't fucking post here. I don't get it, does it really take that much effort to hit the caps, comma, period, etc?

As for Malibu's....whatever. This is a Miata forum, we aren't going to fucking jump for joy or anything. If your friend is serious about modding a Miata and wants some good info, this is certainly the place. But this forum isn't like all the other forums on the internet. So don't expect us to be just like your Malibu club.

Remember...you guys came here, we didn't go fucking find you. :td:

Well,

If your community enjoys reactions in regards to samnavys' then...so be it.

Just don't expect these so called "noobs" to stick around...everyones got to start somewhere...

Just think you guys need to relax, and encourage them instead of dropping attitude because something was asked multiple times.

Don't think it only happens here...

Dude, run back through both of the posts that your buddy has started and find one single thing that I've said that in any way was insulting, designed to run the kid off, or in no way helped to speedily get him on his way to turbo'ing his Miata. Please, just tell me what I said that was so insulting.

I told him he was making standard NOOB mistakes. I told him how he could help himself out in that manner and LEARN for himself all the things he was asking. When that wasn't good enough for him, I answered in painstaking detail all of his questions. Then he still insists that wasn't enough, and starts his second thread and does the same thing.

I also find it funny that neither you nor Tyla have placed your emails, locations, or links to your other forums in your profile like most guys do. I'd love to know your screen-names and visit this Malibu forum you guys are a part of.

Edit: DAMN! Ban-Stick beat me... Oh well, fun while it lasted.

Braineack 05-14-2008 10:08 PM

Why would you go out of your way to join a forum full of 'fags'? Unless of course you're trying to get piped in the ass...
