TurboTim 09-29-2007 10:07 AM

That's ok. I've been working on a new intercooler install for 8 months now. I thought I'd get some of it done this weekend but surprise, today is lunch with the inlaws and tomorrow is some craft show the wife really wants to go to.

Post pics when you get them.

ok, no pics...yet, forgot camera at home, but i got busy helping a friend out with his IC set up, and removing his exhaust...but i was able to take detailed measures and get them to the guy, i should have a "prototype" pipe by wednesday he says...so test fitting will be next weekend for sure and if everything fits up without problems we can start...sorry for taking so long, but again, its not my day job, just a weekend thing to get away from gf, lol
i will post more as soon as i get a chance...
also, i made some really cool intercooler brackets for NB out of AL and weighs less than 1lb that cost less than $20...anyone wants those measures i will be glad to share...NA brackets very similar will be done next weekend, very easy to make, very sturdy and light...let me know

ok, here is the muffler im going to use in the first exhaust
it is to be mounted in stock location and will appear to be stock looking at the car from around the car, it should be fairly quiet

That muffler looks HUGE, how big is it really?

Zabac 10-02-2007 11:06 AM

its pretty big, a little smaller than the stock muffler but also a little lighter...its for who wants quiet...it is SS and 3 in/out but it does a good job at keeping the exhaust quiet, i do not plan to use this on most application, i will use the much smaller (but louder) 4" muffler on others
someone wanted a really quiet stock looking exhaust, so here it is...
the one that i will use in most other apps will look like this
http://s134.photobucket.com/albums/q...urrent=000.jpg
its much lighter and smaller, but its also a bit louder, i will use this one in my application as a straight out on driver side, straight back from axle...but i can also use it in a stock mounting set-up or a diagonal mount with better flow then stock 90's...i will post more pics as i get further
also, i will use any muffler that you want if you are not OK with what i recommend, its your choice

hmm i've heard bad stuff about the flow from louvered inside mufflers, does anyone know if they realy do pose a flow restriction? It is a pity that there is no real flow rating on those things :(

Zabac 10-02-2007 01:56 PM

i wouldn't imagine there any problems with them since they are the very last thing the exhaust gas passes through, but im no expert by any means, but a lot of people use them on turbo cars

If you mean the magnaflow muffler that is in that link, then it's not a "louvered" muffler like some of the others. I have seen cheaper mufflers where the inner pipe is sliced and pushed in creating slits/louveres into the inner pipe...not good for flow. But the magnaflows are just holes in the pipe so they aren't anywhere near as bad.

Yeah that was what i was wondering i had a set of glass packs on my 67 that made less difference in sound, and more resistance in flow than my damn turbo flow mufflers ever did. I just wanted to avoid a mistake like that agian.

update...
i feel a bit embarassed to say this, but my plans did not work out...my friends machine cannot bend 3" pipes he tried hard to make it work but no luck...so i have to find another source to bend the pipes, he still can and will do the TIG welding, etc.
he will make the manifolds (log style), those are not a problem...still mandrel bent TIG welded SS or mild, with flanges for almost any turbo WG combination
any help with locating a new source for custom length/angle, SS/mild, 2.5"-3"
mandrel bent pipe is appreciated, i will try to land one today if i can help it
mods, feel free to change title to "miserable attempt to figure out a way to affordable SS exhaust" since this is turning into a group effort
im not giving up, its just another speedbump i have to overcome
