noob turbo questions , sr20 t25
Hey guys so I bought a turbo today its at Garrett t25 off of a sr20, wanting to make sure its a decent one for my turbobuild, it has very little shaft play. Thanks in advance for the input.

Perfect turbo for your build.
Give us details on how much power you plan on making/ what fuel management you plan to use, etc...Do Not short change us. We need details. |

We need details. the AEM fuel ignition controller with boomslang harness, also I have rx7 red top 460s ready to put in, running inovate LC1 wideband to keep an eye on a/f ratios. Was planing on going with artech manifold and downpipe. I really just wanna try for low to mid power range , but im trying to do everything better than a slap on low power build. Also I think this Turbo is water and oil cooled? Idk. |
Yup that's a great turbo, as evidenced by my sig.
It tops out around 200-225hp, depending on tune, boost levels, engine health, etc. But, on our little cars that's around double the stock power and plenty to work with. You also avoid blowing up differentials, transmissions, and engines at that power level. And yes it's both water and oil cooled. |
Mine made 225whp on around 12 psi. I think the highest any member ever made with one was 240? I have a 1.8 with a 99 head though...
|
so can someone post up some build pics i just want to see what i need to be looking at with clearance issues and also how you ran the coolant and oil lines mine also is a 1.8 but i'm sure the 1.6 is the same block pretty much.
|
Here's mine, but it's a scratch DIY build with an SR20 T25 including the manifold.

200hp on a 1.8. Sounds like exactly what I want to start with.
These go cheap in the 240/drift community. Going to read Stein's build now, I plan on building my own turbo mani and dp. |
See my build thread in the....build thread section.

For that turbo and that power level, spending the money on Artech stuff or welding yourself really isn't (time or money) well spent. Get yourself a used Begi cast manifold and downpipe for your hotside, and buy a universal CXRacing 2.5" IC kit for the coldside. There are 20 ways to route your IC pipes, but a simple "around-the-radiator" is just a matter of cutting the pipes to fit.
I see that you've got an NB... what year is it? HINT: Fill in your signature!!! With a 2.5" or bigger exhaust on a 1.8, you should start seeing spool well under 2k rpm, and be fully spooled well under 4k. You should see in the 210-220whp range anywhere from 12-15psi, and peak torque somewhere in the 180-200wtq area. |
so Im pretty sure im going to have to re-clock this thing any info on how to do this or how to make the wastegate function with the inlet on the complete other side?

You'll have to make your own wastegate bracket.
My personal favorite: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1342399921 made out of 1/4" square tubing from Home Depot. ANYTHING flat will bend. Remember that. |
I'll be getting the flying miata setup diy. It's the manifold dp elbow and lower dp for 750 plus shipping

Clocking what, the turbo? Once you take the huge C-ring off, the compressor will rotate with a little BFH motivation, don't damage your compressor wheel though.
I should have explained more, that's an exhaust clamp around the stock st20 wastegate, I drilled the bracket off in a drill press. Just drill out the spot welds. Once mounted the wastegate can spin 360*, as can the actuator rod, supposedly without damaging the internals. |

Just a hole and a slightly larger Allen bolt through the inlet adapter, you can see the Allen head in the pic. Gotta be an Allen to make room for the coupler.

cxracing 2.5 Intercooler kit ordered :D

Can any of the guys who have the sr20 setup give me an estimate on how many feet of oil & coolant hose i'm probably going to need and also what size of each?
|
you should get an oil feed and drain line as a kit. the oil feed should really be a braided line.. i got mine from Abe for like 80$ i think it was??
also, this is good for info http://flyinmiata.com/support/instru...all_turbos.pdf as itll tell you where to take water in/out from do you have connections on your turbo for water in/out?? |

But i don't know what size, they have it in all different sizes???? And this may not be what i need idk, I'm a newb |
What you think?
|
Thinking about getting back on this project all I lack is the manifold and down pipe, would I run into clearance issues with a begi manifold with ps/ac?
