NOVA pre-Summer Tuning Day

Ummmm so Brainy, Newb, and I want to go to a load based dyno. I'm thinking something along the lines of P-Tuning or F-tuning or some !@#$%-tuning shop. I bet we'd each need a solid hour of work to get a good tune done.

Lets get a list of names and shops to start and then pick a day.

keinayo 05-14-2007 04:50 PM

I am on. I like p-tuning. They did a good job for me last time.

PaKMaN 05-14-2007 05:06 PM

Are all of you guys over in DC?

Braineack 05-14-2007 06:19 PM

pretty much within 15-30 miles of each other.

tronik 05-14-2007 06:28 PM

damn, I am a couple months from this point! Keinayo meeting you tomorrow will go a long way to helping though ;-)

y8s 05-14-2007 06:54 PM

I suspect we'll try to do this asap after brad gets his car back together. a month?

Braineack 05-14-2007 07:16 PM

June 3rd is my 1 year anniversary.

June 10-14th I'm on vacation, so anytime after that.

MX_Eva 05-14-2007 07:36 PM

after that sounds good. I'll show up again but i shouldn't have anything new, we'll see but I don't expect anything on the car. If you guys are lucky I'll bring cora again :rly:

I wouldn't put your car on the dyno but you can definitely come hang. no sense tuning for 100/hour if you got nothin to tune....

my gf wouldn't come if I asked. ;)

MX_Eva 05-14-2007 08:09 PM

Haha, well she might not this time, she was enticed by the karting but I don't think was very disappointed with the day. June 2nd I go with her to a MR2 Dyno Day so I guess she's not exactly typical.

tronik 05-14-2007 08:15 PM

none of you guys are experienced tuning the EMB are you? If I reallt hustled, I might have it together by then. My bro goes to tha air force academy in late june and I get the car full time then.

keinayo 05-14-2007 08:27 PM

tronik, if we do the dyno at p-tuning, I think they know how to tune EMB.

I think you really ought to get a 3" exhaust on your car before you take it back to a dyno.

Braineack 05-14-2007 10:39 PM

Y8s should make his Roadster sport exhaust work on mine.... ;)

y8s 05-14-2007 10:44 PM

too pristine / pricey.

Newbsauce 05-15-2007 09:16 AM

Yeah I think someone on this thread (y8s) should hook me up with a 3" exhaust :(

y8s 05-15-2007 10:13 AM

hmmmm you guys treat me to dyno time and provide the raw materials (gas, wire, etc) and we can work something out maybe... a lift would be good.

Newbsauce 05-15-2007 01:05 PM

Sold.

Braineack 05-15-2007 01:19 PM

ill take your sebring exhaust brad. better than mine. Gotta hack off the 20" tailpipe though...

that7guy 05-15-2007 04:32 PM

Ill be there. I should have my clutch by then!

samnavy 05-15-2007 04:38 PM

If you found a place in Richmond, it might entice a few of the NC guys to come up... maybe a few more Hampton Roads types. My tune is good for now, but I'll come watch and eat pizza... if the drive is within an hour or two.

Newbsauce 05-15-2007 04:55 PM

I think the real point in keeping this tuning day in the NOVA area is the fact that if we blow up our cars, then its not that big of a deal. I would hesitate to really push my car on a dyno 1-2 hours away.

Braineack 05-15-2007 04:57 PM

plus we'll be on a loaded dyno with scheduled tuning time so our junx can outrun the rest of you homies.

Stripes 05-15-2007 05:03 PM

I'll meet up with you guys, but I won't be tuning. I have a dyno 3 miles from my house:)

y8s 05-15-2007 05:03 PM

yeah, sorry sam, we love you and all but this is mostly for the three of us to do some real hardcore tuning. you know, so we dont have to wait for scott to do 10 dyno runs at a 12 person dyno day.

ok back on TOPIC, lets get a list of dyno shops that have loading dynos up in this bitch. i'll edit (if I can?) my first post to have the list as we go.

shuiend 05-15-2007 05:42 PM

Matt I would call PTuning and talk t them about pricing. I know the 250$/hour rate is with having them tune the car. If you are doing the tuning yourself they might give you guys a discount. If SC dosent work out for me I will definately be down to dyno with you guys. Or else I will jsut still Scotts maps when he gets them tuned perfectly

Braineack 05-15-2007 05:59 PM

I added one...they are a great price....near dumfries, off dumfries road...a bit south, but the price rocks!

Hell, I might be picking up a 4 post soon for my garage. Can't make the tuning day but how about an exhaust building day?

Want a quick run to GA? I really want to redo my duals like the new enthuzas with a Y pipe instead of a 1-in to 2-out muff I have now. :sadwavey:

y8s 05-16-2007 09:55 AM

haha my god guys. it'll take a day to do two miatas, depending on what they want done. if it's just from the bottom of the DP back then a whole day for two is reasonable. I have no jigs! who knows how to make jigs?

Braineack 05-16-2007 10:34 AM

matt did you see the dyno place I added? I think even if it's just the three of us, $350 for 4 hours sounds VERY resonable....

keinayo 05-16-2007 11:22 AM

Matt,

Name is Yoram. Count me in. Mid June is prefect for me because I will have my link ECU installed and would need a tune. Any place within 30-40 miles would work.

Just think how good you'll get. It'll only take a week of exhaust making. I've got an NB so it's easier. :bigtu:

MicaCeli 05-16-2007 12:13 PM

Have you guys thought of York Automotive in Mt Airy? They have a dyno @100 per hour and you can do your own tuning.

Thanks Yoram, I knew it was an atypical name but it'd been a while...

yeah that's a pretty good deal. looks like a pretty "not in your face" kinda place too. "you tune dyno session" they list. awesome.

Newbsauce 05-17-2007 08:59 AM

I think lowest HP of the day should pay! :) haha.

So any date idea's? I'm out of town till the 30th. Hopefully the clutch will arrive by then!

Braineack 05-19-2007 02:58 PM

probably the 16th or 23rd of june, somewhere around then.

shuiend 06-01-2007 05:26 PM

To bring this back up I think the 16th would be awesome because I am planning on being back in NOVA that weeked. If I am up and have some spare mola I might wana get in a bit to work on my spark map or I could just steal Scotts when he finishes tuning his.

japspec4g63 06-05-2007 05:01 PM

any update on this? I'm new to the miata community and would love to swing by

y8s 06-07-2007 10:47 AM

mother effin BUMP because I need more power and cruise mpg!!

saturday 6/23??

Braineack 06-07-2007 10:51 AM

works for me, then autox on the 24th

that7guy 06-08-2007 03:08 PM

Sweet ! :bigtu:

Newbsauce 06-08-2007 04:03 PM

I vote for the 23rd or the second weekend in July.. so that I can participate haha. Looking like my engine will be back together this time next week.

Newbsauce 06-08-2007 04:05 PM

I think a fun thing would be a "meet" type thing at Burke Lake park. My IS300 club used to do it...they got grills and stuff. Not a bad setup.

y8s 06-08-2007 04:11 PM

what are the chances scott'll have a running car on that date? should we schedule without him? I need my shit toooooooned man!

that7guy 06-10-2007 12:45 AM

im up for a dc area turbo meet

Braineack 06-11-2007 05:16 PM

schedule without me, but ill show up and hang out. I probably wont be up and running for a month.

Newbsauce 06-11-2007 08:28 PM

Yeah I'm not up for the 23rd its looking like.. I will know friday.

neogenesis2004 06-11-2007 09:07 PM

My FE3 might be on a truck coming from Canada by then :P Might have a tig welder at the apt by then too. If so I'll spend the weekend learnin myself to use it on some SS and Al.

y8s 06-11-2007 09:37 PM

well hell maybe next weekend. i was supposed to play volleyball but a dislocated finger will surely prevent that, right?

Braineack 06-11-2007 09:38 PM

ouch yeah.

Hah, funny you should mention that.. I dislocated my doubles partners thumb in volleyball last thursday when he attempted to block me. He's out for 6 weeks needing surgery. What tournament were you going to play in?

y8s 06-12-2007 10:37 AM

i'm not sure of the tourney, but our team was going up against the democrat women leaders of california team. haha.
