oil fittings, aluminum ok?
 

so as i assemble a list to place a large order from summit for my oil feed and return lines, i have one question. is aluminum ok for the fitting into the block oil feed location? generally my gut is telling me an aluminum fitting into a steel block is a bad idea, but anyone want to tell me otherwise?

since it's a greddy turbo, my feed line is a -4an line with a 10mm x 1.50 to -4an adpater for the block, side, and a 10mm x 1.25 to -4an adapter for the turbo side, possibly with some 90 degree action on the turbo side to make things a bit cleaner.

sound about right? aluminum safe, or does anyone have a link to where i can get the above in non-aluminum?

id get steel. Just because I am strong like bull, and they expand a different rates. No big deal, but I am paranoid. Plus steel is cheaper.

I think braineack broke one of the aluminum ones off in his block a while back...

I had removed it from one block and installed into another....didn't like it the second time around.

an easyout get them out like butter..how do i know??? ,,ya i broke one off in my old 323... but if u want to save money go to a transport shop and they will make you the lines ..they wont be "AN" or "STEEL BRAIDED" but JIC is a lot cheaper and does the job just as good ...im runing JIC for oil feed/return and coolant..... and there hydrolic lines/fitings there good for 2000psi??

When I built my turbo feed line, I used a -4AN to M10 banjo fitting with an M10x1.5 banjo bolt to go into the block. Summit carries them under brake hardware. Then a 45° -4AN hose end to go onto it, and up to the turbo.

you know there's a tightening rule for AN fittings... wish I could find the link

JIC = 37* Flare = AN.... They are all the same sealing geometry and fully compatible. I do a lot of hydraulics at work and what AN fittings are called all has to do with the manufacturer. Industrial suppliers can also make you hoses in SS braid... you just have to ask. Standard is 3,000 Psi working pressure... in the length we deal with you can sometimes get a killer deal if you ask them to use scraps from other jobs.

sounds god. i'll look for banjo fittings for the block and turbo. only issue is it looks like they only sell the damn things in pairs for brake jobs... anyone want me to make an extra greddy feed line? lol

the only tihng is, the greddy oil feed port is 10mm x 1.25, right?

The feed from the block is M10x1.5. The feed into the turbo is M10x1.25.

You're going to need two -4AN to M10 banjo fittings, and these parts are the same between turbo and block. (the exception being that I used one with a long neck to feed the turbo, and at the block I used a short one.)

The bolts and washers are sold separately, and this is what determines the thread pitch (1.25 vs. 1.5)

yeah, i just ordered all the stuff from summit. only difference is i got straight hose ends for the drain. should come together just fine, though. i appreciate the help.

My thinking is you should still have enough hose length to get the straight hose ends lined up. I probably just ordered the same stuff you did, except only a drain. Hope the Summit stuff isn't cheap Chinese junk.

Most of the plumbing fittings they sell are made by Aeroquip, Russel, Earl's, and other well-known manufacturers. Even the ones sold under the no-name Summit brand seem to be of roughly equal quality to the low-end (non-swivel) Earl's fittings.
