oil leaking from drain flange
2 Attachment(s)
so i have oil leaking from between the threaded flange for my drain line, it bolts on with two allen bolts and has a paper gasket, i made sure the bolts were as tight as i can get them, the fitting itself is in tight, but i can feel oil leaking out from the interface of turbo and flange. its not alot, but i can smell it burning when im driving. I know silicon wouldnt withstand the heat, neither would jbweld, anyone have similar problem/solution?

Is that the begi oil drain flange? I had the same issue with mine on my gt2871. I ordered a new drain flange off ebay for like $15 and it fit a good bit better. We will see if the new one does not leak

yeah its begi. let me know if the replacement leaks too or not.
i might just have to deal with it, i cant think of how else to fix it without getting some sort of flange welded on? is there some reason not to do it that way if i get a steel flange instead? |
just as a reference, how bad did your leak? mine leaks enough that my steering input shaft (whatever its called) is wet with oil. its not just leaking enough to burn, its dripping some too.

I have the same problem. BEGi parts. Everything is tight. Its a serious pain in the ass to get to it, so I might just have to pull the turbo to replace BEGi's inferior parts, which is becoming a trend on my car.

Also, did you try using any sort of copper or composite gasket before replacing?
Looking forward to your update on the new flange |

Looking forward to your update on the new flange Is it possible for you to measure the distance between the 2 bolt holes on the turbo and then compare that distance to the bolt holes on the piece from Begi? The problem with mine was that it fit perfectly on my SR20 T25 and my China 2870 with no leaks. When my got my Garrett GT2871 the holes were actually closer together. So I have to make the holes in my block bigger. I think that is why I had oil leaks, because I had no way to tell if it was perfectly centered. When I removed it last week I could tell that it was off and could see where it was leaking. |
mine is a sr t25 turbo, so the flange should fit right if yours did, ill try to measure it sometime but i wonder if some sort of composite gasket might help, or if i should just get a replacement. what did you go with for your new flange?
