Oil Viscosity?

I know there has been countless threads on Oil but could I just clear up which viscosity is best.

I have always bought 0W-40 Mobil 1 oil for my turboed cars but just recently I spoke to a Nissan 200sx owner who said that he drifted his car and using a thicker oil like 15W-50 would be better as you dont want the oil too thin?

Can anyone clear this up as I always thought thinner was better?

Thanks
Andy

I need to clear up 1 thing. I tried reading the above link but my brain is fried. I get the physics of it but in practise is it better to use a 0W-40 fully syntehtic oil or a higher viscosity oil eg 15W-40 in a turbo miata. I used to always put the thinnest highest quality oil I could buy in my turbos. Then a drifter told me I should be using 15W-40 oils as it doesnt get as thin when you drive the car hard.

Im about to buy my oil and would love some opinions and if possible the type of oil you are using now?

Many Thanks
Andy

If you still have questions after that thread you should end the pain.
