opinions on rx7 460cc injectors im about to install

I put together a diy Turbo thread for my 2000 nb some time ago. The stock clutch went a month ago. I ditched the Garrett t3 once it failed me. I have been running the godspeed "super 60 t3" since September and love it. Autotuned on 7 psi with MS2. Have not dynod the car yet but I feel that it is time for more boost since the flyin miata clutch is broken in. I don't think the stock injectors will handle desired boost of 12psi. But I fucked up when I piecing together my kit and bought the red top rx7 injectors that you can't tell are high or low impedance until you try them out.what can I do and anyone see a problem here?

flounder 04-11-2012 07:54 PM

I'm running 15psi on 425cc rx8 injectors so you should be fine.

blaen99 04-11-2012 08:02 PM

As for your dilemma: Try them, if they don't work, just sell them and buy the correct ones. Rx7 injectors *are not* expensive.

cardriverx 04-11-2012 08:22 PM

I run them and the work fine. 64% duty cycle at 12 psi. And you can just test the resistance between the two pins to tell if they are high or low impedance...

Techsalvager 04-11-2012 08:42 PM

or you can read the part number on them, rx7 injectors are documented pretty well.
I still would get newer injectors instead.

sickmiatabra 04-11-2012 08:48 PM

I looked up the number on the injector a while ago. I just have the one set that is "either/or" so i'm kinda stuck on that. How do I test the resistance to know if they're high or low?? what numbers should I be looking for. And can I still tune with them if they are low impedance on my MS II>??? thanks for the input guys

Techsalvager 04-11-2012 08:51 PM

2010 at the last 4 of the injector part number?
They are high impdenance
and if you are worried just grab a mutlimeter, set it to read ohms and hit the 2 pins on the injector.

High Ohm/saturated direct fit Miata plug and play replacement injectors (“F” connector)

89-91 RX-7 NA 460cc - Red Top #195500-2010
89-91 RX-7 Turbo 550cc - purple top #195500-2020

As Cardriver and Tech both said... put a meter on them and get the resistance. If its more than about 12 Ω, you are golden.

The link above also has pics for identifying high and low ohm F connectors

Notice the connector clip tab?

RC Engineering sez:

Do I need high or low resistance injectors for my application?

Injectors are classified into two categories.
1. High impedance/resistance (saturated) 12-16 Ohms.
2. Low impedance/resistance (peak & hold) 0.5-6 Ohms.

Saturated injectors require roughly 1-1.5 amps to open the injector. Peak & hold injectors initially needs about 4-6 amps, and once open drops to roughly 2-3 amps to keep it open.

ECU design will dictate the use of one or the other. Most late model cars will use saturated injectors.
http://www.rceng.com/faq.aspx#Do_I_n...my_application

Of course if you are dead set on buying new injectors, you can always look into a set of FiveOhMotorsports or Injector Dynamics EV14s and ditch the 1970's level injector technology :)

blaen99 04-11-2012 09:13 PM

Renown Performance sells FICs for less than Fiveo's injectors, and substantially better quality than Fiveo at that.

/Support a forum vendor and all that if you want to go cheap.

EO2K 04-11-2012 09:22 PM

Good call, I didn't realize Renown was selling FIC. I'd seen Reverent recommend FiveOh in the past, so that's what I bought. I was unaware there was a quality issue FiveOh??

blaen99 04-11-2012 09:25 PM

From what I understand, Fiveo buys the cheapest EV14 they can find, then bore it out to whatever they desire for cc-metric.

FIC buys the closest EV14 to their desired cc metric, then bores it out.

FIC's process is similar to ID's, FiveO's process is the classic fleabay injector process.

/YMMV and all though, I've only found that out via copious internet searching.

sickmiatabra 04-11-2012 09:32 PM

Alright here are the numbers, all four have the #195500-1350 on them. But on the other side of the injector, 2 of them have a 25 with "E" on the injector clip. The other to have 26 with "F" on the clip. Still good? lol

blaen99 04-11-2012 09:33 PM

Nope, those are lo-z and not hi-z.

Well, there's a *chance* they may be 88s, but 88s were the black sheep of the RX7 family with respect to injectors.

sickmiatabra 04-11-2012 09:37 PM

No! I'm pretty mad now. Came with pigtails too. Should I just scrap them. Or would I have a problem running these with megasquirt?

Frankly, I'd strongly recommend against hacking up your harness just for RX7 injectors.

I've seen fully PNP hi-z 460cc RX7s go for as low as $50 in the classifieds here.

However, if you MUST use those...

high ohm---> http://www.witchhunter.com/flowdatapix/d1955001350h.jpg

low ohm---> http://www.witchhunter.com/flowdatapix/d1955001350L.jpg

Or just freaking test them with a multimeter already and get final answers.

sickmiatabra 04-11-2012 09:44 PM

I'll check later tonight. I don't feel like going through that hassle either. If anyone has a set of injectors for sale/ let me know. I need to upload vids of my car and this is all I'm waiting on

EO2K 04-11-2012 09:44 PM

Crap, now I'm questioning MY injectors. Thanks BALEN Now I have to pay WitchHunter $50 so I can sleep at night :vash:

But yeah, test them with a multimeter and see what's up.

As much as I love WH (And man, do I LOVE them with all of my RX7 injectors...Seriously, I don't want to think of how much cash I've spent with them over the years), DW has a better forum-specific deal for MT.net.

/The more you know!

I have a spare set of 425cc RX8 yellow injectors if you are interested. About 60k miles on them before they were pulled.

EO2K 04-11-2012 09:55 PM

Yeah, I just checked and DW is still doing their "MT Special" upgraded service. The problem is that I only want these things flowed, not cleaned. I may PM or email DW and see if they have a "flow only" service. I really don't feel like spending ANOTHER $80 on injectors I may ultimately never use.

I'm really starting to hate my build :loser:

Yeah, eBay injector vendors have a huuuuge history of being super-shady.

Venom injectors was the first to experiment with this, and they haven't gotten any better since then unfortunately.

What's FIC's "process"? I can't find any information or data on their website beyond the advertised flow rate.

Googling like hell.

Both FIC and ID have people posting from their companies actively on various enthusiast forums.

Either way, my statement was meant to denote the difference in starting injector and boring (Aka, the big difference between the typical eBay process vs. what more reputable shops use), rather than the post-boring process.

cardriverx 04-11-2012 11:22 PM

If your going with nice injectors, I highly recommend these guys:

http://www.injectordynamics.com/

Paul Yaw is an awesome dude and I have seen the injectors used in some high HP builds and work flawless. Plus you get a full profile of the injector, which is rare.

Not to sound like a salesman haha.

dustinb 04-12-2012 10:39 AM

I definitely recommend not getting the RX7 injectors. I put the 460's in my car and they idled so poorly.

Techsalvager 04-12-2012 10:43 AM

I can idle just fine at 950-1000rpms at 1 to 1.04 lambda on 460 rx7 injectors

blaen99 04-12-2012 12:05 PM

I've been able to idle fine at 800-850rpms on RX7 injectors myself, Tech.

Only reason I'm upgrading my injectors is because I need MOAR INJECTOR!!!

That and I'm not rewiring my injector shiiit just for RX7 injectors.

Techsalvager 04-12-2012 01:30 PM

at stoich as well idling fine?
I want newer injectors for better gas mileage and better effiencey

blaen99 04-12-2012 01:32 PM

Yeah, no issues myself Tech.

I just have messed up injector wiring from my 1.8 swap, and if I'm gonna rewire, I'm gonna use better injectors.

sickmiatabra 04-21-2012 01:02 AM

Wtb injectors asap!

Used Denso 540cc $150: https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-parts-sale-trade-5/denso-540cc-pnp-injectors-64975/

NEW DeatschWerks 600cc $285: https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-parts-sale-trade-5/new-old-parts-act-zm2-xtss-clutch-walbro-255lph-hp-dw-600cc-injectors-more-65057/ New in box, never installed

Used RX8 425cc $75: https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-parts-sale-trade-5/rx8-yellow-injectors-denso-195500-4450-a-65301/ If I didn't have injectors pending, I'd buy these.

The 425cc should be good for a shade over 200hp @ 3bar. Remember your NB fuel system runs around 4bar, so that meas 490cc in an NB, good to about 250hp. Just to complicate things even further, the NB does not use a vacuum referenced fuel pressure regulator, so every +psi of boost in the manifold is -psi on the fuel system. The 4bar/58psi rail pressure @ 12psi manifold is actually 46psi, so right around 437cc and 220hp. RC Engineering has a great free calculator HERE.

Take a look at DeatschWerks in the MT Vendor area of the classifieds. I'd HIGHLY recommend taking advantage of their cleaning and flow testing service upgrade when buying a set of used injectors.

All the injectors listed above should work for your application and all are available right now in the MT classifieds. These should all be Plug & Play for the Miata head/fuel rail/wiring but not the stock ECU. Go make some offers man!

No seriously, I'd have bought your RX8s and run them with a 1:1 adjustable FPR with a return line and a base pressure around 50psi. That's probably all the fuel I'd need for ALLOFIT on my Rotrex with the 88mm pulley

customfab87 04-21-2012 04:54 AM

Who's got the least expensive plug and play connectors to adapt the rx7 460cc hi imp to a 2001 Miata?

sickmiatabra 04-21-2012 12:39 PM

Thanks dude! I'm picking up the rx8 425cc's just glad I got pointed in the right direction. Im running megasquirt 2 diypnp from braineack. I love the autotune feature. My t3 is pushing 7psi right now and I know the stock injectors can't handle much more. Im planning to set it at 10 psi and go from there. I need to redo my.thread on the setup. So much has changed and I did it all on a budget

skou 04-21-2012 12:57 PM

Yeah, you did it on a budget and now I owe G $8! ;)

EO2K 04-21-2012 01:56 PM

I may or may not have been in an "altered state" when I made those 2 posts yesterday. The principal is correct but I'd check the math :)

sickmiatabra 04-21-2012 10:31 PM

Haha, the new setup is amazing. I love my godspeed "super 60" not too laggy and after 7 months of abuse. Still has the shaft play like it came out of the box. Cannot beat it for $200 shipped. I'm going to up it to 10-12psi and get it dynod (post sick drifting vids and all that)

Yeah the Godspeed turbos seem to be pretty legit. The one I installed my old miata is still running strong.
