Opinions on these parts?

Anyone used these in the past? Will I have any issues finding turbos/downpipes or other parts to mate up?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Mazda...item2ead65805a

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Turbo...item2c4f9cdbc0

Also I have seen a few people refer to "$250.00 DIY Kits" on here. How is that possible with the long list of parts needed to run effectively? Granted, I have never turboed an N/A car before...

seraph 06-03-2010 09:14 PM

I've seen those parts work but don't always last that long and will sometimes require more fabrication to get everything to work well. There are people who have 250$ kits but they put them together themselves from other projects or donations from friends. They usually have turboed several cars already also.

With this being your first N/A to Turbo car I would do a lot of research and save your money. I would recommend buying more reputable parts and save some money on Intercooler(Ebay) etc. As far as the turbo, manifold, and downpipe go with FM, Begi, etc. It's easier when all are mated for each other and are car specific.

Also do it right the first time and you'll save money and headaches. :2cents:

Work at kfc, slip and break your neck, then when you get paid, buy yourself a 4 cylinder vtec.

Thanks for the advice. I might hit you up with a few questions as I go. Looking at your profile I can see you are pretty handy.

Have this parts been used yes, I cant recall who, but there was a recent thread made about it. However the first question you should ask yourself is if you're really capable of piecing the items needed? and by that I mean if you have the basic knowledge of what going FI involves and requires. More than likely youre just another "spoon feed me" person, given that you did NOT research shit.

Speadyracer has been a great seller as far as turbos is concern.

Actually I did quite a few searches. Didn't find anything about "speedyracerparts" specifically but did read quite a bit about "chinachargers" which I was NOT asking about. I have done a lot of business on ebay and I am very familiar with the risks of purchasing Chinese knock-offs. I am quite capable of piecing the kit together, but most of my experience is with factory turbos. On those cars you dont usually go replacing manifolds unless you have to. But I am seeing how things are going to go on this forum right away, so I will keep my posts to a bare minimum. Anyway, thanks for "spoon feeding" me.

ohh my... mouthy little guy, look that's the easiest "bashing" you could've gotten, all u had to do was search ebay turbo kits, ebay, etc and you probably would've found something along the lines of, you get what you pay for........

best quote from a Noob ever^^^^^ you've been potty trained already I can see... :giggle:
as far as adding any useful info to your thread,...... I have none ;)

Those 2 manifolds are exactly the same as the BEGi S4 tubular manifolds. BEGi get their S4 manifolds made in china and the company that is making them stated selling them on ebay cheaply. Apparently BEGi aren't too happy about it, but can't do anything to stop it.

The only sticky in the Pre-Fabbed Kits forum covers it:
https://www.miataturbo.net/prefabbed-turbo-kits-3/

Where is SamNavy with his denoobing stick when he's needed?

You absolutely will need a stout brace to make this manifold last more than about a week. That's the only difference I can tell between these and what Corky is selling - he includes a couple of rod ends and a rod when you pay him three times as much. I admit I haven't held either in my hands. Don't know if one, both or neither are actually back-purged when welding, for example.

I think the real question you have to ask yourself anytime you buy ANY manifold is:

Will turbo hit block?

you going to back up that statement with proof? How do you know that there the same? I though bell made there shit in house minus the cast manifolds.

Finally digging up some Begi postings about the S4 over at m.net.

Stephanie sez:
The S4 style manifold is worth it - but only at higher boost levels. Low boost level applications will not be affected much by the longer tubes. We do offer a 2 year warranty on these manifolds as they can crack. Even though we support/brace them to the best of our ability, about 1/2 of them crack. The manifold will ONLY fit a T25 flanged turbo.
...
Please don't take this as I am dissing the S4 manifold. I'm not. It has it's place and purpose. But, I am honest and up front about how much or if it will crack. If you do not support a SS manifold, the failure rate is 100%. If you over support a SS manifold, the failure rate is 100%. If you support it just enough, like we do, the failure rate is about 40%. Hence, the extended warranty on it.

Interesting thread overall. They do discuss some post-processing they do after they get the outsourced manifolds. Couple gussets here, some flattening there. Add a couple rod ends and a threaded aluminum tube.

But wait, there's more...

Very True. If you added an EGR and support brace, you have basically the same manifold we do. Both of which we sell separately. Gotta love the Chinese who copy things...
Stephanie

The second post I linked is basically Stephanie saying the Begi S4 is the same as the Ebay manifolds that look exactly like it.

Which I have believed must be the case for a long time but hadn't bothered to research until now.
