Default Over the radiator intercooler piping (NB) radiator placement.

Good evening all,

I’ve finally completed the last major piece of turbo prep for my 99. Right now I’m trying to get things in order under the hood to run intercooler piping. I’m looking to go with the “simple” (allegedly) route, running the intercooler pipes over the radiator. My piping will all be 2.5”

my car has the AC deleted. No condenser, nothing. I’ve got a little room to work with here.

Anyone who is running a turbo NB1 with over rad intercooler piping, what did you need to do with the radiator to make it all fit? I’ve seen lots of NA OTR setups and I’ve heard the NBs are easier to do this on.

thanks in advance!

stay with 2.0. There's absolutely zero reason to run 2.5 piping unless you have 2.5l of displacement or more.

I used 30mm spacers on the mounting tab with longer screws to mount the ac condenser. Since you don't have that you don't have to worry about it. I mounted the intercooler to the same condenser tabs. I made a shroud plate for the radiator mounts. You don't need to lower the radiator on the NB.

thanks a million for the reply. Looks like I’ll go 2” then!

did you have to modify or replace your cooling fans? Mine contact the sway bar with enough tilting. Also, is your intercooler in between the radiator and the core support, Or is it more underneath the support? Was any modification required at all for the radiator brackets?

Fans clear with no problem. No contact with the sway bar. The fan motors are close to the serp belt though. Like 10mm close. I didn't do anything to the lower mounts. There was enough slop in the rubber bushings to accept the lay-back. My IC is between the core support and radiator. I did have to bend the power steering and AC lines a little to clear the IC. I'm using a treadstone 500hp core with custom end-tanks because I had an extra one on-hand. I was running a Starion core but it killed my turbo spool rate.

Man, thank you! I’ve been racking my brain on this for awhile now.

No problem. I remembered when I was looking in to it all I could find was na info or track dog supercharger kits. It really was an easy job in the end. All the troubles I had were related to the ac condenser and hard lines. Really easy job.

Sounds like it! You didn't even have to cut out anything on the hood, did you?

Nope. If I were to do it again I would use 1.75 tube instead though.
