Patsmx5's Intercooler Install *56K, no.*

I'll write more about it later. For now, I'll let the pics do the talking. But the jist is this will have short, simple charge pipes, nothing hangs down low, no pipes under my radiator, 4 couplers, all factory plastic shit fits with no modifications including the under tray, no visible FMIC for stealth (main reason I did all this), used all factory mounting points to fasten it, etc. 20x12x3 core. Only "bad" is I cut up the car to make room for the pipes. I don't care, but some wouldn't do it. Haven't made the charge pipes yet. Kinda need to put the engine in first...

That's one hell of an intercooler. Looking very good so far. Did you make those upper radiator brackets? |
that looks like a good start to a badass setup. Didn't you use to run direct port nitrous?
|
Right on! I'm glad to see another person not afraid to do some cutting to get a really nice piping route. I've only seen a few others do this so far.
Seriously, you won't regret the work. It's a fantastically simple and short piping route this way and you will be running the awesome 12x18x3. Mine: http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_i...0045_large.jpg (some things in that pic have changed but you can see the IC setup) |
Some of us have headlights there. Boo headlights.
Looks good. |

Looking good Pat. Looking foward to seeing how well it runs. You should bring it over to Houston this summer:).

what happens when you overheat with your stock radiator? looks like the radiator end caps protrude over the intercooler. Do you have room for an all aluminum unit?

Drag Race won't put enough heat in the car for it to matter. Street cooling will be no different then before. |
let me know how those intake temps are when your done with the set up.... i mean its nicely done but impractical kinda. its in between the condenser and the rad thats heat central. if anything take out the condenser or mount it in front of it. like the fact that IC pipes are short but not the best place to put the intercooler. just look at factory turbo cars IC is always in front or side mount and those guys that work at the factory ant no dummys. they put hours in development and testing... intake temps are a lil more important than a/c. and u may not use the a/c while boosting it but thats air restriction when not needed. ive seen similar set up but with out the condenser and always curious on there intake temps.. log them when u get a chance. nice work

innovative, nice :bigtu:

i hear you on the stealth thing...... but if the engine blows cuz of intake temps u cant blow cold a/c with a blown engine... but anyways log those intake temps im curious to see what u get

Just because Pat got beat by Hustler to install a turbo, doesn't make him incompetent.:) |
Yeah, I'll post my intake temps when it's on the road. I'm sure it won't help being 5/16 of an inch from the radiator. But once the car is moving, there will be airflow and very little heat will be able to radiate from the radiator to the IC. My old intake was a filter by the header. 60*F above ambient was "normal" when cruising. So if this is any lower than that, I'll be happy. :)
And Mike, he might have beat me to actually turboing the car, but mine will be faster. :) |

I would find great humor if Pat blew his motor and came to find that the "Root Cause" was high inlet air temps.

Looking good Pat. I still haven't decided how I'm going to go. Finish up so I can make up my mind.:) |
That is looking great Pat, too bad us NA guys have headlights in the way.
