Paul's new 3" stainless BEGI replacement downpipe
 
Pics of Pauls new 3inch bellmouth stainless downpipe for the BEGI-s kit he has on his DD.

I don't/won't have a set price (or a jig) but it would cost more than the seperated gas BEGI pipe in 3". However it would fit well and have the O2 sensor pointed where it should be which tends to be an issue with every BEGI downpipe I've experienced. :vash: So basically if you're not local with a big checkbook, sorry, at least for now. hehe. Go with the BEGI piece it's not bad.

It required trimming off the firewall ledge for fitment. The downpipe just barely cleared after trimming; we decided to add clearance with a torch and BFH to the back of the pipe just in case. We kinda went overboard with the dent but whatever. Adding clearance to the firewall would be a better option but we didn't want to remove the turbo. The downpipe installs thru the bottom without unbolting/loosening anything. Paul got a metalcore cat too, and a transition to 2.5" right at the flange to his RB street dual catback.

Yeah yeah placing the lift pads there crushes the frame rail bla bla bla no it doesn't.

Not trying to start anything, but wouldn't it be better to start with a smaller size pipe from the turbo, and then work your way up in size, rather than start large, and restrict the flow later?

In any case, that is a nice downpipe!

Looks prettier in person.

Car holds 10-11psi nicely now btw Tim (I think Paul told you). The main issue was the stock wg needed to basically be cranked down fully, even removed the lock nut.

Plus a teeny leak off the compressor to EBC/WG line/fitting.

Car felt nice after that.

Not as nice as the 99+gt2560r setup though... so fun :)

No, this way we can easily remove the transition at the end if/when I want to do a 3" catback.

The before and after logs are pretty meaningless since my wastegate actuator was set too soft and wasn't allowing me to even reach 12psi with my EBC at 100% DC across the RPM range. Even removed the line to the wastegate and couldn't. With no EBC it was only making 6 with boost line attached. After tightening that up it makes 11 flat out to 7000rpm with no EBC. I now have my EBC DC's set from 30 to 50 to maintain 13 across the rpm range.

3" bellmouth is a perfect fit to the garrett turbine housings. You could start with a 2.5" pipe and add a wedge at the flange; I thought that'd be more of a pain to do. You could do that to the standard BEGI flange if you were so inclined. I personally think that'd be worse than 3" all the way including the cat. Tapering to 2.5" right at the end isn't ideal, but neither is the 2.375" RB street duals. If/when he wants to do something that flows better, the 2.5" section is easily removable. I don't think his catback would be much of an issue on his daily-driver though. I hope he isn't trying to make silly power...it is a 2554 on a 1.8 afterall. Spool has to be great regardless and I think the compressor would start to run out before the BEGI DP would. A 2560 would probably be a different story. Who knows though. Datalogges Paul?

3" DP isn't needed on that turbo or setup either; I don't know if he'd see any significant power or spool improvement over the flat flanged BEGI piece we took off. But I haven't seen a 3" and it'd basically cost just as much as a 2.5" to do so why not ya know. Originally Paul just wanted a cheap replacement DP that didn't stick the O2 sensor into the transmission. He ended up with something unique and expensive and one of the better downpipes for this setup. haha. Sorry buddy I'll make it up to you.

Tim is talking about swapping my turbo with arties while he has it in his possession, not swapping my dp onto artie's car. what the hell are you talking about?

and guess what. the flange at the 1.6 catback is the same as the flange at the 1.8 catback. that's why you see catbacks marketed as 90-97. On a factory setup it's the its the flange on the end of the header downpipe/front of cat that's different.

Actually now I did make a jig, and it will cost less than an equivalent BEGI pipe (3" with metalcore cat), probably at $650 with the cat. I will probably be able to do it without the cat and save like $120, but either way the downpipe will end at the catback flange. If you want/need the catback flange to be 2.5 I can do that too, but it'd be an extra $25 or so for the 3" to 2.5" transition.

I want to make one more off the jig and fit it to a local car before I go attempting to sell them to the masses. Hopefully Paul still likes me enough to let me borrow his or Jes' car...again.

It will, but not much. It will also require trimming off the little aluminum tab on the side of the trans bellhousing. I use a hack saw on both.

The new pipe isn't dented like I had to do to Paul's. Horray.

it is such a a thing of beauty lol and you're welcome for being able to make the jig lol I'll end up coming back for a cat back but since mine is 3" currently it'll be a while.

BTW i noticed it spooled up about 300-500rpm sooner than from my old DP.

i had the DP sam was trying to sell awhile ago. wasn't a SSSG or even the standard S DP. was a bellmouth design 2.5" up to a high flow cat and the current cat-back.

but it didn't fit right so i had to bring it to a muffler shop and get a peice made to make it all work.

I don't know if I'm using BEGI's website correctly so this may be wrong. I'm in their 94-97 section (but I hope to verify this downpipe jig on 90-up begi/fm setups):

3" outlet for downpipes (3" only after the flex joint) $55
