^ American societies current view on diesels, which is only being refueled by all these morons with stacks, big sticks, boxes, and no turbo setup to backup the amount of fuel they are dumping.

Once people see the light, we will see far more diesel engines in smaller vehicles....... Unless the EPA gets it their way. They are choking the diesel engines, killing HP, MPG, and engine longevity.

That Prius electric supercharger discussion was in 2005! If I were a nerd that needed to bump 25 more hp from my Prius to make it up steep slopes in Colorado, I might have looked into a forced induction solution. Seems like there are some people that had enough sense to try talk the guy out of it (BT Tech).

I remember reading about a honda insight owner (the gen1) who had turbo'd his car for moar powah! I was years ago (~01?) and iirc the guy was a cop. I think he did it with an aux injector setup.

Search revealed there are tons of turbo hybrids now.....

Mainly their incredibly ineptitude at comprehending how a turbocharger/petrol engine works. It sucks you've actually got to read 2 pages of their spew to realize this, but some of it is incredibly hilarious/pathetic.

I give them kudos for at least looking into it, regardless of their competence level. There is only one way to learn, and that is explore, assess what you don't know, accept it, and seek the knowledge you are lacking.


Now maybe they stopped at step 1...but I agree it probably wasn't worth a thread, and CERTAINLY wasn't worth registering over there just to stir the pot.

Not to be contrary here, but there are serious turbo designers/companies looking at turbos (for piston engines) with electric motors/generators, and I do not mean the eBay snake oil electric superchargers. There is some serious potential win there believe it or not. I cannot (should not) elaborate further.

But yes, it just goes to show that if people will modify a Prius for performance, they will modify anything. Lawnmowers, leaf blowers, ad nauseum...

Riding lawnmower racing is awesome. Those guys are serious.

I feel it would be hard to use an electric turbocharger with anything other than drag cars, unless we have a major advancement in battery tech soon.

They are fully out of their gourds in some awesome ways. Theres a good bit of that North of Denver and I need to get up there to watch it. I hear they hit 70. Thats pretty scary on a JD designed to move at about 3.

Another type of racing that seriously amuses me is those little 50+horse Mopeds. straight insane.

I met a tech at a local motorcycle shop that races mopeds. Raced an Aprilia scooter IIRC. He gave me the quick run down on the whole thing. I had no idea, crazy stuff.

I saw a lawnmower drag racing event/demo at one of the local county fairs. The driver (rider?) had a braking failure at the end of his run (modified mower so he was moving fast) and went straight through a hay bale wall into a crowd of people. Amazingly no one was hurt.

Yes, 17lbs, and it makes a whopping 6 psi for a few runs.. so worth the 2500 investment, minus batteries and plumbing... Still a long way off. But maybe promising one day. except when batteries are that good, we will drive electric cars?
