Purchasing a Turbo
Hello everyone, I have been looking into starting the process or turbo charging my 1993 Miata. I am looking at various parts a pieces that i'm going to need for the setup once i'm ready to assemble it. I have been looking around at turbochargers and i'm not really sure what to look for. I want to make around 150-160 horsepower to the wheels once I have everything setup. My question is if this turbocharger(https://goo.gl/PNaMqo) from CXRacing a good choice for my turbocharger? I'm not too sure what to look for in a turbocharger so i'm looking to you guys for advice. I'd like something that spools up relatively quickly but i'm open to anyone's suggestions or comments. Thank you for and feedback!

mmmmm as a learning step, try something around the td04 range, small enough to spool quick and small enough to not give you enough power to blow your engine, they are stock 7psi = 160/180hp.
The chinacharger at 14psi sounds like 220-240hp..... Read more. Also whats your manifold?.... needs to fit that. Got ecu? 1.6? 1.8? need bigger injectors for >180hp.... list goes on ... |
You will find the answer in the stickies, right above where you posted this.

Or just goto mkturbo.com and get a setup that works and quit worrying about it.

eBay cast manifold, SR20 T25 boom ya good.
I had that same churbo. If I hadn't blown it apart I would've kept it. Since I did however, I switched over to the Garret SR20 T25. They go for sub 300$ on Zilvia.net and SR20 Facebook groups. Be patient and look for one. The SR20 turbo will still give you fast spool (Ridethecliche's is near instant). |
Or go to MK turbo, get a nice kit that works well.

Sounds very similar and as simple as Kellyann Conway " well the people who lose medicaid, could always go get a job that pays for your insurance." |

This is incredibly misleading to a new guy. You sound just like a buddy of mine who got me into the turbo game a few years ago, who to this day has not actually finished a turbo anything.

Dubz,
If you are really serious about this, hang around here and read all you can. Don't post much untill you read all of the stickies in all of the forum thread sections. Then check out a few build threads. Yeah some of them are 30,40, 100 pages long, but they have great info sprinkled throughout them. The MK turbo is an excellent way to go for a nearly complete turbo, manifold to exhaust tip. The real question though, what is your budget and can you go without this car for a couple weeks at a time? |

Buy a used m45 set up if that is all the power you want. Just bolt the sumbitch on and roll with it. Might as well be fail and aids with your engine intact.
If you want a real, inexpensive turbo set up, buy the one Lars offers. Buy the one with the engine management and injectors, and you won't have to worry, or even think. Put a non shitty clutch in, put the shit on that Lars sent you (starting with the MS) and call it a day. Then you will have more than 150-160whp. Which is what you really want anyways. If you can weld/fabricate, go for it on what you're thinking about. |

As of yesterday, I now offer a fully complete kit that includes everything you need to hit 220whp, except for a clutch and a boost controller.

nice job man! I can only imagine the work it takes to make that happen. Lots of companies can't do that, let alone with just one dude.

My spool is good because thirdgens a beast. The ewg really helps I think. I bet that it would be noticeably slower without the ewg since I have a cat and a 2.5 exhaust. I'm looking forward to seeing how things go with a slight upping of the boost and ebc enabled!

Read through my build thread. It's only two pages long. Partly due to using proven parts and had a professional install my kit, so not a lot of the usual build thread drama. My sr20 T25 is a spool king. Making 13 psi by 2700 rpm or so.

+1 for MKTurbo, I am also a happy customer. This is the best bargain out there for Miatas period as far as I'm concerned, nothing else will give you the bang/$$$. A 3" exhaust is $1200 from FM, do the math on the MK kit's value.
