External wastegates are added to the exhaust plumbing on the exhaust manifold. The advantage of external wastegates is that the bypassed flow can be reintroduced into the exhaust stream further downstream of the turbine, reducing turbulence between the wastegated gasses and the normal exhaust flow, and thus flowing more freely. On racing applications, this wastegated exhaust flow can be vented directly to atmosphere.

Not only can you achieve higher boost levels, but by keeping the wastegate closed as long as possible, you will the turbo will spool faster. The wastegate arm (internal) holds a valve shut until it sees boost. Once boost enters the wastegate actuator it slowly opens the valve until the boost level peaks. Keeping the valve closed the longest amount of time possible will allow the exhaust to spin the turbine faster, instead of being bypassed (and thus, 'wasted') into the exhaust.

Feel free to go edit the wiki if things have changed! I.e. if IWG's have gotten to the point of this being a non-issue.

No, I am using a 18"x18" bar and plate IC from China. I tried out the Vibrant 12800 on every different type of miata NA6. NA8, NB1, NB2 and could not come up with a good place for it to fit that not completely block air flow, or site to low, or hit AC components.

Hm... I have the fab9 vibrant IC installed and haven't had any issues so far. I'm not running the undertray yet and have used AC on hot days, including on a day when I drove 250+ miles with parts in stop and go traffic. Maybe I just got lucky?

I have a koyorad but no reroute.

Ah yes. I completely understand your need to streamline things and offer parts that work with all iterations of miatas in different trims and different locations.

Looking forward to the first full kits moving out! It's definitely a good time to be interested in building a turbo miata!
