Quick Spool... long range Turbo?

Hi,

Im looking for a turbo that makes nice and quick spool and that dont die after about 5400 rpms...

Any ideas? like with band from 3500 to 6500 rpms? with decent spool on my 1.6 NA?

Savington 05-02-2009 11:14 PM

Depending on power goal, 2554R or 2560R.

Tony~ 05-02-2009 11:15 PM

Im looking for a 200whp goal... its not much

Black '94 | '99 longblock, GT2554R, MSPNP HR10G | 6-speed, Rx7 LSD w/ 4.10s
KONI RACE, GC, 6UL+NT-01, XP12/10 | 217whp/192wtq
From savs sig...

Itll make the power, and spool quicker than the gt2560R.

But you have 1.8l Ill have a 1.6l

240_to_miata 05-02-2009 11:26 PM

It is still probably the best option and will get you above the 200 mark. Other options could be the cheaper and slightly smaller TD04 from a subaru.... but then you have to deal with non- garrett style flanges.

Tony~ 05-02-2009 11:27 PM

I don't really care about non Garrett flanges :) I currently have a T25 .80 A/R... and i don't think that would be really good for my goals...

Get a 2560 and a tubular exhaust manifold, like the BEGI S4, and a free-flowing exhaust. You will have the power of the 2560 and the spool of the 2554.

There is a good thread here if you search for it on the relative spools of a lot of different turbos, with a nice graph. That will give you an idea of what to expect.

Thx, ill look for it, I was just looking for a Non Ball bearing option maybe... these are kinda too much for my DIY turbo Budget. :D

pkasilag 05-04-2009 10:28 PM

I'm using a Mitsubishi TDO5 14B turbo from an eclipse on my 1.6 and it seems to spools up right before 3000 rpm and doesnt choke till around 6000.

disturbedfan121 05-04-2009 10:39 PM

or just copy my sig it made 220whp

Any T25 off an SR20 with either a .49 or .64 exhaust A/R will meet your goals perfectly. You should be able to find them all day long in near-new condition for $200 or less. I paid $250 for a brand new one.

Tony~ 05-05-2009 12:08 AM

I got a .80 A/R t25... from a bluebird SR20det i think

Savington 05-05-2009 12:16 AM

.80 A/R is compressor. Compressor A/R doesn't mean anything. You have an 80/64 T25, which is perfect. Good luck on the build. (Get your CHRA orientation right and don't fuck up your tune.)

CHRA? (Compressor Housing Rotation Attempt?)

That turbo on a 1.6 with a Bell S4 manifold, decent ECU, and any 2.5" exhaust will probably make in the 220-230whp range at 15psi. You'll make 2-3psi by 2k rpm and be fully spooled in the 3200-3500range.

If you're sticking with bandaids, it'll still probably make a tick over 200whp at 15psi and spool the same.

CHRA (just google it dude)

Tony~ 05-05-2009 07:40 AM

I did google it, that was just a try lol :) Thx for all infos ! :)
