whats a catch can do other then catch oil? From where the turbo or something?

Routed between the crankcase breather and intake tube.

Prevents oil from being sucked out of the crankcase and into the intake path. obviously.

Am I the only one who thinks this can and bracket look uneccesarily heavy? The bracket is 3 times thicker than needed and the can looks like it was machined from billet with a really thick wall... why all the weight?

I bet it weighs very little being aluminum. These are mostly marketed at the Supra and boosted G35/350Z guys so they are already SOL when it comes to wieght. Whats another ounce or so? :)

I agree that its best to utilize this to allow a slight vacuum to be pulled on the crankcase just like factory. The air filter on the valve cover works ok minus smelling the vapors and the very light oily film you sometimes end up with on some things on the passenger side.

Aluminum is light.. yes. But, that doesn't change the fact those things appear to weigh about 2-3X more than is required for what they do. They look nice, and I'd probably put one on my street car. But, lately I've been doing more and more race car stuff where an ounce here or there is way too much to sacrifice.

Yeah. Its not marketed as a "racecar" part just like most the pieces we install on our cars. I see what you are saying though. Most people involved in such competetive racing where ounces matter are probably utilizing thinks such as titanium fasteners and a lot of carbon fiber or aluminum so they probably have a part fabricated that fits their needs over installing a universal unit anyways.

I know this is off topic but have you guys seen the Cusco catch cans? The build quality is bloody hideous!

Dang, I think too much. It looks like it will fit nicely either next to the turbo, by the upper shock mount (begi/fm manifold), or using those two useless bolts on the front of the vave cover.

Now I am just thinking, how hard will it be to drain? Since neither position allows decent acess to the drain on the bottom.

How does it secure into the bracket? Is it just a friction fit, or does the bracket clamp down with a screw I can't see in the pictures or something like that?

This can is actually somewhat baffled and will assist in removing larger drops of oil from the crank case vapors.

I am going to order a pair of cans ;) today. Anyone else want in?
