So here are some pics... Going to modify this manifold to take an external wastegate and add allot of support. Got this for cheap on ebay... Didnt want to spend allot if this falls through and turns out to be ass.
Go for it. Support it well, see how it goes. You will also need to support the down pipe off the trans then a flex piece. Less is more. What's the compressor housing lying on the floor in the one pic? HT18S-2S.... Turbo from and FC Rx7.. Funny you should say something about that... I got to looking at it the other night and, the compressor wheel is remarkably similiar to the S200. Its the close to the same size but just a pinch smaller as far as exd and ind measurments go. What is different is the # of blades.. It has less.. |
This turbo should work pretty well once it spools. It should be comparable to a 2871R in flow. Big turbine wheel will be higher flow up top with slower spool but the 0.64 housing will bring that down.
Borgs are always odd in sizing compared to garrett, but they work really really well. |
I believe our friend David has swapped this turbo for an SR20 unit and is now on the lookout for a used FM/Begi cast manifold. Like a boss.
|
It's the less interesting way to do it, but also the way that will see the car still driving at this time next year.
|
Are we banning people for suggesting that eBay manifolds are anything other than absolute and utter garbage yet?
|
we should
|
Oh man, I have the borg warner bug and was excited to see how this ended up. What, if anything, happened to that turbo?
|
I don't get the logic of going with an eBay manifold, even for a test, if you plan to go turbo eventually. Here's why:
eBay manifold: $100 Approximate value after cracking: $15 After you decide you need a quality manifold and buy a new one, new BEGi mani: $400. Total cost: $485 VS new BEGi manifold: $400 Total cost: $400 :dunno: |
Ebay manifold is documented fail aids.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1398235565 It is possible to beef them up by adding braces etc but it kind of defeats the low $ theme. https://www.miataturbo.net/build-thr...e2/#post992615 It has been said many times before but worth repeating... Mr. Ebay why not increase the wall thickness? |
Guys, the S200 is gone, and he's not using an Ebay manifold. You can all straighten your panties now. :bowrofl:

Stimulates the knot pretty well, doesn't it?
|
But... But... Why is it gone? :-(
|
FWIW, that was a turbo designed for a small diesel application, just by the specs - very small compressor inducer with relatively large exducer and disproportionately large turbine compared to the compressor.
