Kind of. Wish there was a forum section for just swap questions?
Putting a 1.8 into my 1.6 chassis. Don't see anything on the 1.6 motor/harness that would take advantage of these two items pictured below on my 1.8 - do i just pull them off and disregard? Wire connector above the alternator bracket: https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1451969238 Extra crank sensor? 1.6 doesn't use one that I see....I'm assuming it just relies on the CAS on the back of the head alone? https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1451969238 Sorry if this is in the wrong area or a no brainer. I searched out images to compare and swap how to's and didn't see anything referenced. |
I defer to Braineack's comment: https://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo...6/#post1296913 Second is a Crank position sensor for the , but if you're using the CAS from the 1.6L on the exhaust cam, you won't need this. Looks like this is a 1.8L from an NA? |
I'm putting a 1.8 from a '96 m edition into a '92 chassis. I'm gonna be extending the wiring of the 1.6 CAS plug and just using the CAS on the 1.8 on the exhaust cam.

Then you can do as you wish with these superfluous parts. Are you running megasquirt already? If you do not plan to run sequential ignition/fuel then you can just run a toothed ring on the crank pulley for higher resolution.
I just happen to have a 36-1 available that fits supermiata harmonic dampers |

So if I'm just using the oem 1.8 CAS located on the exhaust cam with the 1.6 harness wires extended, I can scrap the crank sensor? I'm gonna be running a braineack built ms.
Can you elaborate on the 36-1, and retaining the crank sensor pictured? How would you wire that in? |
first wire is for power steering.

it tells the ECU: WE NEED MORE POWER, SCOTTY.

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I'll be doing away with both of them then.
