Separated Gases DP Leak

2 Attachment(s)
Hey everyone,

I purchased my Miata used with a T25 turbo kit already in it. I've noticed that the separated gases downpipe is leaking at the joint in the picture, however, the joint on my downpipe that I circled is actually further up where the arrow is pointing.

Anyway, just wondering if I should have this joint welded to stop the leak or if it's un-welded for a reason. I have searched to no avail. I appreciated any help.

I would personally say no. That is a slip joint for a reason. Find out how BEGI seals that joint and go from there. Worse comes to worse I would look into one of those pipe clamps.

Thanks for the reply.

I tried an exhaust U-bolt clamp, however, it was unable to be used do to how close the main part of the downpipe is. Maybe I can find a lower profile clamp.

I will contact Begi as well.

It is a slip joint to allow for differential expansion between the main pipe and the waste gate pipe. Main pipe has constant flow of hot exhaust, waste pipe has intermittent flow. So you should not weld it, or one of the pipes will develope a crack

Other vendors use a flex joint in the waste tube. Some use a double slip joint, which are reputed not to leak.

I had the old begi separated gas pipes down pipe years ago and never had leaking issues. On my Absurdflow setup I have a double slip joint and it also does not leak. I would look to swapping out to a double slip joint to get rid of the leak.
