Setup teaser pics....

It's been a loooooong time coming as custom fab stuff takes awhile, but here are some teaser pics of the finished stuff:

V-band flange machined into turbo housing itself.

Some manifold shots. All SS with backpurged welds.

Wow. I know nothing about your new project.. built motor?

That manifold is dead sexy.

Everything there is sexy! Here I was feeling happy about my car coming back together.

I love flipside products. It's gonna be Bad-A man.

airbrush1 10-13-2008 02:46 PM

fab work looks beautiful. Will the WG placement be optimal though, it seems to me that the exhaust gasses will have to reverse direction completely to flow out of there (take into account that I have no knowledge of flow dynamics other than what my tiny brain tells me)

Braineack 10-13-2008 02:59 PM

Looks like you wiped off the cum stains before taking the pictures.

brgracer 10-13-2008 03:03 PM

Setup list will come later in my build thread so don't want to get into it just yet as a few things are changing last minute. ;)

Airbrush, I agree that the EWG placement is far from ideal, both on the manifold and when rejoining the DP, but space and welding does have it's limits. :) Also, a few other manifolds with similar EWG flow or only on runner #4 have not had huge boost control issues so I think I can live with it. ;)

TurboTim 10-13-2008 04:10 PM

Horray for pics :) I'm very interested in seeing how this 2871/T3 inlet and long runner SS mani works! (Assuming that's still the turbo you're going with??)

Still a bummer we couldn't work something out...maybe I'll just use the same turbo in T2 flavor with a new A/C P/S friendly absurdflow and spank you in spool, hp, torque, weight, and less melted underhood pieces, then sell it for cost. hehe jk buddy. Seriously, nice manifold and DP. you will enjoy it! :)

PS I'm glad you are doing ok, I had a dream about you last night where you died. Strange.

patsmx5 10-13-2008 04:13 PM

Is that an ebay manifold?

J/K Looking good. More pics! And any more details on the manifold and its' construction? Weld ells?

TurboTim 10-13-2008 04:16 PM

Oh and V-bands are "the sex". Very clean setup! Nothing worse than tightening those 5 DP bolts.

paul 10-13-2008 05:00 PM

I'm not worried.

Didn't realize this was a competition. Plus you have 200cc+ displacement and a 99 head vs. my 1.6 so not really apples to apples.

Wow, didn't know you were mad at me that I die in your dreams. Thanks. ;) As for the build, yeah would have been nice to have an absurdflow setup but the logistics of leaving my car out there and somehow getting a ride back, plus other stuff would have been a hassle, but then I guess I wouldn't be waiting 6 months. Oh well..... Plus, this is a bit unique and I don't think Rob is making any more manifolds where the absurdflow is getting played out. ;) Just kidding. I pretty sure that your mani is better on spool/powerband, but this build is a bit different.

brgracer 10-13-2008 07:27 PM

More details in the future as everything but the turbo setup is kind of in the air at the moment, but basically:

Built 1.6L bottom end, worked head/aftermarket cams, Flipside Customs SS mani/DP, Garrett 2871 with a T3 housing option that is supposedly comparable to their T2 housing with 0.64A/R. I went T3 housing b/c the mani was T3 flanged and the v-band housing option only came with a T3 housing from ATP. Lots of other goodies on the car. I think the flow limiting factor here will be the stock intake manifold, but hopefully I will address that before the car is all together as well. When all is said and done, I'm hoping to run 18-20psi of boost . :eek5:

:) We'll see what my stock motor does soon enough.

Neither am I, but mine isn't quite apples to apples either.:giggle:

Never the less, that looks sick dude. Looking foward to see it come together.

urgaynknowit 10-13-2008 07:55 PM

i creamed my pants just now, that mani is pretty
and the dp looks awsome.

we need some on motor shots

Oscar 10-14-2008 10:04 AM

turbo not hit block?

j/k
looks great :)

Saml01 10-14-2008 10:25 AM

How come that is the manifold design I most often see on Hondas?

Looks cool? Works a lot better than a log manifold? Relatively easy to build?
