Am planing of turbo charging my 1991 miata. It comes with a short nose engine but I heard negative things about how it would fail more than the other future engines. I got a 200,xxx mile long nose engine from a 1993 miata that I bought just laying around. My short nose engine in the miata has 124,xxx miles on it. Which one should be the best for a turbo upgrade? Am planing on buying the Flyin Miata 2 hydra turbo system. Thanks.

 

Since the other engine is out, rebuild it and then put it in your car. You're going to have to do your clutch and other things anyways, might as well swap motors and start off with something in good condition. A motor swap is super easy to do in these cars.

 

I agree with the above suggestion. You could even add some beefy internals to the longnose if you ever plan on going bigger. Pistons and rods are alot cheaper if you do them while your already in there. Also someone correct me if im wrong but i didnt think power really had anything to do with the shortnose crank problem.

 

I'm pretty sure there's no power correlation either. It's mostly a matter of torquing the bolt wrong.
