t25/28 style turbo required: Churbo- Suggestions?

Hi Guys

After just having a baby ( and resultant drop in income) my Garrett turbo has let go. So while we are down in income for the next 6 months or so, I am wondering if anyone has any positive experience with a t25/28 churbo or a seller that I could reasonably trust?

The ISIS turbo, sold by BEGi with their Shanghai kits, is available on eBay for real cheap. Without the ISIS warranty of course.

Mine has recently started smoking intermittently. Others have had similar failures. Im sure there are lots out on the road still running.
240 guys seem to think its a great turbo. I can only assume they never dyno anything and just measure how well they can drift with it or something.

With endorsements like that, who needs opponents?

Haha, not sure if thats helping or not!!

anyway, this is one that caught my eye...

Disco Potato T28 Turbo Charger turbocharger SR20DET s13 s14 for Nissan 240sx | eBay

I've been told that a disco potato is too big for a miata, especially a 1.6, but that's a real small a/r on the turbine.

I couldn't find a map on that specific turbo, but judging from the GT2859R 56 trim .42a/r compressor map, It's a pretty good fit for your sig's power level. This turbine map shows two gt2860's with larger a/r turbines. If my math's right, those are too big and won't spool until late in the rev range. Your mystery turbine might do better though. Isn't this turbine smaller than a 2554r?

If you do it, post results, I might throw one on my 1.6

The "2854" that Begi sells on the Shanghai kits has got to be one of the worst turbos you can put on a miata (or probably any car).

unless of course you were aiming to build a turbo setup where it spooled like donkey shit and made power like superman's flaccid penis using a kryptonite condom.

:bowrofl: teh force is strong

Im pretty sure this:
T25 T28 Turbo Charger with Internal Wastegate JDM for 240sx s13 CA18DET SR20DET | eBay

this:
ISIS Performance T25/T28 Replacement Turbo - Nissan SR20DET - Enjuku Racing Parts, LLC

and this:
Chinacharger T25/T28 Hybrid for the Miata

are all the same thing. The difference being that the first one has a phantom warranty that will be impossible to redeem.

18psi 10-23-2015 03:13 PM

2 or 3 factories making all of them
100-200 different turbos
deductive reasoning will tell you that most will be very similar, if not same

Tell us how you really feel

I have the Chinese turbo that BEGi sells, here is my dyno plot;

https://www.miataturbo.net/dynos-tim...yno-run-83548/

It's not the greatest turbo but it works for me, it's just a street car. I have not driven one with a real Garrett so I don't have anything to compare. But I have a Garrett 2860 sitting in my garage waiting for me to install. After I install it, then I can say if the Chinese turbo sucks or not.

Do you have a local turbo shop that could rebuild what you have? There was a GT2560r sold on here recently that had a receipt with a $375 rebuild. More expensive than a churbo, but I'd gander a lot better too.

mx5-kiwi 10-24-2015 03:48 AM

Sadly i am lead to believe a rebuild here will cost in the region of $600-$900.

Double the price of the churbo.

Though I have been offered a t25 equivelant, new Holset for $1200.00.

Am trying to research what I can about it.

REALLY cant afford it but I have been invited back to the Rod Millen Leadfoot Festival again and am desperate to be ready for it.

Currently eyeing up some much loved goodies to possibly sell off.....(Fender Jaguar guitar etc.. )

Rebuild kits are cheap and only require snap ring pliers and a few regular tools. It will usually last a while if the wheels aren't too out of balance.

Corky Bell 10-27-2015 08:14 AM

For the very first time in history, brainiac is all wet. There is no such thing as a kryptonite
condom.

corky

aidandj 10-27-2015 08:50 AM

I think he meant kryptonite cock ring.

mx5-kiwi 10-28-2015 11:46 PM

Fae comes back and this place goes to homosville in an instant.

I have found a used BB t25 with 48 hot and 53 cold side that is apparently in good working order for a fair price...It will be interesting to see the spool and peak HP / boost it makes.....in comparison to my t28 that was modded to 48 hot and 60 cold (from memory).

Presuming it IS in good working order!

Might have someone who can install a holset core in to the T28...if it can't be rebuilt for a reasonable price.....

time will tell.....
