T25 from Nissan?

Hey guys I called my local Nisan dealer and tried giving them part # 14411-91F00 but they said it was a bad part #... I read somewhere on here that Nissan should be able to get this turbo, and it was in the $600 ballpark?

thirdgen 11-19-2012 09:42 AM

I would never buy this turbo straight from a dealer.
I bought 2 SR20 turbos on Craigslist for $40 for both. I bought the one that's on my car and still running after 4 years, paid like $120 for it.

Good to know, thanks! I will start looking around for one used on Zilvia and on here. No rush... have a good year and 1/2 to collect parts for my build until I can actually start putting it together! lol

There's a reason it's called the stealership.

Haha I hear ya. I just wanted to buy brand new so I can be sure not to have any problems down the road. $600 didn't seem too bad but if I can find one in good condition and half the price... by all means I'm gonna jump on it!

skou 11-19-2012 02:06 PM

Your avergae Nissan dealer won't be able to find this part since it's a JDM part that has to be special ordered from Japan. I just bought one a few months ago for $729 shipped from a Nissan dealer advertising on zilvia.net. Seems his price has since gone up to $879.

Hmmm I wonder if my old parts manager could hook me up and contact someone about special ordering one for me... I might go talk to him in person rather than call. I was a tech at the dealer I called this morning for 4 years. I still keep in contact with him because I deal with Nissan for the company I manage now.

turbofan 11-24-2012 12:31 PM

why the hell would you pay $800 for a t25 when you can get an assortment of other [BIGGER] nice turbos for comparable monies? Am I missing something?

I want a quick spooling smaller turbo that's not from China. I'm open for suggestions but from what I can tell a T25 Garrett turbo seemed to be the way to go... If not, enlighten me lol

turbofan 11-24-2012 01:09 PM

How about a journal bearing Garrett GT28? Journal Bearing Garrett GT28 - T3 5 bolt .63 A/R 350HP+ : atpturbo.com

Would that provide comparable spool with better power? Still a T2 footprint, right?

Here's a ball-bearing one for the same $895 as the journal bearing one above... Garrett GT28 R/RS Turbocharger

I dunno. Seems like a solid choice, no?

You can also find dual ball bearing GT2560s for $975 shipped Garrett GT2560R-466541-4 (GT28R) Dual Ball Bearing Turbo w/Internal WG

but........

Why not buy a used one like suggested above? Could always send it to a reputable turbo shop and get it rebuilt, you'd still be wayyyy below the price of a new one.

Just other options!

BTMiata 11-24-2012 01:21 PM

No doubt! I definitely would consider buying used... as long as it's very low mileage or never installed. I want it to be reliable. I was considering the Nissan turbo because I read about someone ordering it directly from Nissan and it was $550-600.... Thats not bad when you compare it to a used one at $300-400 and not knowing it's mileage or what abuse it's been though. Just figured it would be a decent option considering I am only shooting for 200hp. I might still go with a Garrett T28 though

mellowout 11-24-2012 10:50 PM

If youre looking for reliable, get a Garrett. New or used, they are very reliable. Paid $150 for mine with no shaft play and it works great.

Youll want to look at the classifieds on ziliva.net then. They pop up all the time, I had my choice of 3 or 4 when I looked.

Yeah i've been browing over there ... actually thats what im doing right now lol. I'll be ready to buy in the next week or 2. If I can't find a clean one low mileage, I might hold off till later in the winter

Pen2_the_penguin 11-25-2012 06:17 AM

Don't be so quick to write off a chinacharger. I bought a used Sr20 genuine Garett used for around 150 bucks shipped, so look around

new2mx5 11-25-2012 07:51 AM

Buy a used sr20 and if you want it "new" send it off and have it rebuilt or rebuild it yourself. The hardest part is getting the bolts on the exhaust housing loose.

Here is a good deal on a used sr20

I have actually been reading a lot of good stuff on the Isis turbo's... This still may be a route I could take. If something happened down the road, its only a $280 turbo. So I might still use this in the beginning stages of the build and change it up later on

I could definitely go this route also, and it's something I would definitely consider. Thanks

Search for dustinB's build thread. You want to use the same Godspeed turbo that he was using.

Yeah it appears that godspeed no longer sells the turbo I used. It's a hard knock life. BUT EBAY STILL HAS SOME:

You can see the difference in their old / new T28s
Old:

New:

I don't think I'd touch their new GT2871, but the older GT28 that I was running is a sweet turbo. The buddy who bought the car off of me recently sold it to someone who is actually into cars. He's drag racing and autocrossing it. Turbo still giving sweet power like yo momma gives up that booty.

Ahhh yessss thank you sir!!! This will likely be the one I use :bigtu:

$600 bucks for a t25 is a little overpiced.

Like someone else suggested a gt28r would be a nice addition. In addition a 15g turbo from a Volvo 850 is capable of flowing 300hp, and has a relatively small exhaust housing good for a 1.6 or 1.8

Yeah I think i'm going to give the Godspeed GT28 a shot.

BTMiata 12-27-2012 02:20 PM

Just ordered the GodSpeed T28.... Hope I have as much success as you did dustinb! I've thought a lot about which turbo I wanted to go with, and this seemed like a great option for an even better price!

BTMiata 12-28-2012 10:58 AM

Ugh.... Just got a full refund from this E-Bay seller who sent me this message:

Message from merchant: Hi,
We just found out this product has a little problem, so we have returned all the items to the factory to fix. We issue the fully refund to you first.

Not very promising... I found 2 other sellers who have the same exact listing. I sent them both a message asking if they have the turbo in stock and ready to ship. I will wait to hear back before I try again.

Back-up plan...

ISIS T25/T28 Replacement Turbo - Nissan SR20DET Import Image Racing

Only ends up being another $7 after shipping compared to the Godspeed T28. I'd prefer the Godspeed but I have heard a lot of good things about that Isis turbo, especially from the 240sx guys. We'll see what happens by the end of the day!

thirdgen 12-28-2012 11:47 AM

If that turbo is a ball bearing unit, it will fail and you will wish you wouldn't have bought it.

Doing a little research on that, thanks!

I am still dead set on getting this Godspeed... I really am hoping one of these other vendors pulls through. I dont see how/why so many vendors would pay to put these listings on E-Bay for a turbo that they don't really have!

*Fingers Crossed*

EO2K 12-28-2012 12:07 PM

I've got some friends in the 240 world who swear by that Isis turbo, but then again, they are 240 guys. :giggle: I'd be nice to see someone on here give the Isis a shot and get us some real data. I very nearly bought one myself, but ended up with a legit Garrett 2560

Found a little more data on the Isis here: http://www.enjukuracing.com/products...n-SR20DET.html
Well, maybe not more data, but at least somewhere else you can ask questions

Even if I got a year out of it after it dies, I wouldn't cry about it haha. I'm going to be looking at it as a "starter" turbo. I'm not worried about longevity, just want to get my set-up all figured out and I could always swap to something better later on.

Comma placement is critical :giggle:

"Starter turbo" is how I've always thought of the various churbos, but its pretty damn cool that there are people who have been rocking the chinese cheapness for years with no issues.

Haha Whoops!

So I really am thinking I will be the first to try an Isis on a Miata. The Godspeed is looking more and more suspicious. I looked into the 3 different sellers on E-Bay who carry this Godspeed turbo, and all three ship from the same town in California. I think all 3 seller accounts are actually the same company. I hear everyone saying to stay away from the Godspeed GT2871, so I don't think I want to go with that... What exactly is the reason to stay away from that one though?

BTMiata 12-28-2012 02:52 PM

Wait a minute... Isn't this the same turbo as dustinb's ?!?!

T28 Internal Wastegate Turbo : Godspeed Project - TC-015 by: Godspeed

It looks identical!

It dosen't say GT2871 unless i'm missing that... hmmm

*Edit* Specs are different when comparing to that E-Bay listing... I guess they used the old pictures on Godspeed's website but it looks like it is indeed a GT2871....damnit

BTMiata 12-28-2012 03:33 PM

Just ordered the Isis... Eff it. I'm not dealing with shady FleaBay Vendors.

Pays to be on forums!!! A quick PM to the guy who advertises on my WRX forum and I just saved about $75 haha... Happy I went with the ISIS for that price!
