talk my lame ass into buying a "real" turbo
so the dick car finally will get some love for the first time in years, as a 2002 longblock with 50k on it was just dropped off at my shop bay.
I got an AF manifold from Tim late in the fall (sweet jesus that thing just gives me a boner every time i open the box to remind myself to get un-lazy about my car. T2 flange, though, so i fail at life), and am having Reverant build me a brandy-new MS with extra awesomeness infusions. Already have ACT XT organic clutch, torsen, and 550's, and am putting together a 3" turboback myself as soon as i start mounting everything. My plan had originally been to get a high mileage 1.8 and build it over the winter, but that was lagging and i stumbled upon a good deal on the above mentioned 2002. So, now what I'm thinking is that I can just drop this thing in, and run it with stock internals to get the car sorted out, and do a bottom end when I blow this one up, or next fall/winter. Whichever happens first. Now, the question is, given that the 2002 motor isn't going to stand up to eleventy bazillion ft*lbs, I was thinking of whether i should churbo or go with a smaller format than my eventual plan of a legit GT2871r or a BW 6258 once i replace the 1.8's guts. or, should i just grow a set and buy the turbo i will use to make the eventual larger power target (mid 3's, understanding i have no real reasoning for that particular #, and will be looking at other things to support eventual tranny and diff explosions at that point, as well as larger injectors). opinions on whether i stand to gain anything at all by buying a china t2x and jumping up later, except maybe picking up a couple hundred rpms of boost onset (which, may not be an issue if i just get the right turbo right away, huh?) flog me. |

Buy a used 2560 for a good deal, use it on that motor for a while, sell it for around what you paid for it and buy a bigger turbo when your ready.
IMO |
Buy a brand name used turbo for now, and resell it to fund the uber-turbo later.
