Thoughts on the accounced GBC line of Garrett turbos?

Will the higher tiers be the product some have been looking for as a middle ground between 2560r and a GTX28xx?

Quick noteworthy points is they are journal bearing and oil cooled
Internally wastegated
GTX Gen II compressor aero
Billet compressor wheel
Also have noted the inducer is significantly smaller than that of the 2560r

Compressor map of the GBC22-350 looks comparable to a gt2560r on the low end but more flow up top for longer but im no expert.
Any thoughts on these?

Those look very interesting. I may have to grab one to try out in the future.

Definitely considering upgrading from mine, it fits my goals without wasting top end

I wonder how the housing compatibility is. If that would mate to a T3 5 bolt Ferd style housing, like the 2560 does, that would be a drop in for an MKtrubo upgrade.

It does appear to have the same flanges as a gt2560r

I talked to my rep at ATP. They are about 2-3 weeks from having some of these turbos in stock. Once they are in, they should be check to see if any other housing fit on it.

msmola2002 07-08-2021 04:27 PM

Yep. To clarify, the eBay T3 used in the MK setup uses a ford 5 bolt flange. You can spec a 2560, or bigger unit like a 2860 gen 2 with a T3 housing

This little guy here
https://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchan...y_Code=GTHGT25 there is a different one that will work with the 2860, 2867,71s.

Or buy the GT2560R with that housing fitted for the same monies as a T25 version
https://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchan...Code=GTGT2560R

So I am kinda hoping you may be able to swap the housing to a T3 unit to fit the MK setup

edit: lars beat me to it

Mrmiyagi01 07-08-2021 04:27 PM

I really hoping this will be a bolt in replacement for my kraken parts.

https://www.garrettmotion.com/wp-con...ge-diagram.pdf dimensions of a 2560

dimensions of the new fella. looks like 171.4mm long for the 2560, but that is without the fitting for the compressor inlet and total length for the new one. So looks a wee bit more compact and shorter, so that is good in that will free up maybe half an inch in front of the turbo, so perhaps more room for activities? but you may need to rejigger IC piping, if the turbo effectively sits a little further back.

I wonder what the dimensions from the t25 flange to the back of the exhaust housing are as that would be the main factor for most fitment issues. Charge piping and intake are easy to shimmy around to fit, downpipe clearance not so much.

I'm scared of big hammers

I am doubtful there will be any differences in dimensions there.

Very interesting for a lot of guys, I believe. Like the Borgwarner Airwerks. Journal bearing, latest tech Aero, but 2/3 of the price of the big boys. Not bad!

If these spool a little bit better or just equal to a 2560R,these should sell pretty good.

I am hoping for a little better spool then a 2560, but a top end that is a bit above 300whp.

der_vierte 07-09-2021 07:14 AM

What an option that would be! Especially for 1.6 owners

shuiend 07-23-2021 12:48 PM

I talked to ATP today. They have them in stock. Unfortunately t3 housings do not fit on them.

der_vierte 07-23-2021 01:03 PM

Sad, but was expected a little bit, because the one we are all interested in, is the biggest they offer. :(

We should make a petition

andyfloyd 07-23-2021 07:37 PM

Someone needs to test one of these. Pretty cool

I'm still planning on grabbing one to test out. No idea when though since they won't work in a t3 housing. My motivation to test T2 turbos is far lower. And I need to save my pennies for those NC Xidas that Ed just posted about.

Mrmiyagi01 07-24-2021 08:43 AM

I think even before anyone has posted numbers I will be buying one in the future, saves me from switching to efr or wasting money on a GTX or G series. But still so interested to see real world numbers!
