Been flamed out asked to use the search function for asking a question about something if read and didn't understand. Something may arm simple to the ms initiated, but to me, it's all overwhelming

Don't take the flame answer as the only answer. It is always better to be very detailed in your questions regarding things you don't understand because it shows what you have read and what you do understand and that there have been some attempts at comprehending. Don't be afraid to say thank you to the guy who flamed and ask the question yet again.

This x100.

"For people with big track experience, is it beneficial to run a higher a/r turbine housing?" is a lot more likely to get a real answer than "Jus got a junkyard T25 anyone know how many psi it can handle?"

And the term "allofit" was born.

aidandj 05-08-2016 11:11 PM

Happens all the time.

Q: "what should I do for my pcv valve"

A: Fuck off and search.

Q: "I've found these 2 options that people have suggested (explain options) but I'm curious about why (some specific aspect) of optipn A is better than option B"

A: Detailed explanation with some help

Nobody likes answering the same question twice, ask a new question.

I will add that most of the MT members I have met are really good people who would likely pull you out of harm's way at risk to themselves in reality.

Braineack 05-10-2016 12:21 PM

Maybe on the west coast!

sonofthehill 05-10-2016 12:50 PM

What can I say, having lived in frozen ass new enlgand for a few years? Everything is better here.

Maybe I should have said senior MT members. I am certain that you and Lars would pull out of a hole if I were in need. Not saying you would stop someone from detonating their motor, but I have seen you do it here. I have never met you guys though, so WTF do I know.

turbofan 05-10-2016 12:52 PM

Yeah pretty much everybody but brainy :P

After moving to Oregon, 80% of my friends have come through this website.

aidandj 05-10-2016 12:55 PM

And the "other site"

18psi 05-10-2016 12:56 PM

Scott Will be your friend unless you post pictures with filters on them. then he will hate you

turbofan 05-10-2016 01:02 PM

True, The PDX lounge as well. That doesn't fully count as the other site.

sonofthehill 05-10-2016 01:04 PM

Filters?

Braineack 05-10-2016 01:43 PM

100% of my friends IRL are/were members of this site.

aidandj 05-10-2016 01:43 PM

What about your cats?

Braineack 05-10-2016 02:21 PM

they all died.

aidandj 05-10-2016 02:23 PM

It is true. Your guest bed is extremely tall, you need like a step stool to get up in it.

Braineack 05-10-2016 03:16 PM

fuck a platform bed. box spring + pillow top.

Whenever I see someone turbo make their car fast and fun for cheap, it makes me want to kill myself. I have this unfortunate compulsion to purchase expensive parts. And I'm still not fast.

18psi 05-10-2016 04:14 PM

chuck all your parts in the trailer and drive it down, I bet we can make your boosticles drop :)

:likecat:
Yeah i just hope the premo parts are worth it. I'll take a guess and say that I wont care once i can actually spin tires on wet pavement... and like, actually have good afrs at all altitudes. aaand beat Spec Miata times at every track I go to....aaaand shift a smooth trans....and...

Yes he does, this is one of his video that bring me here.

Not focussing on the cheap part of his talking (because I suppose this is what get him views on YT and search engines), but on the DIY part where he is pushing people that probably won't be confident enough to try by themselves.
Also note that into this age, lots of people prefer to have an entertainer into a video than reading a forum even if there are detailled pictures.

I can understand that the old guard could be upset by the young knight but he is not doing bad to the cause imo, he's just doing things differently that you would I guess.

The thing is he isn't doing anything new or really different. Everything he is doing is how we would turbo a miata in 95-05ish. The different way he is doing it can be very inefficient and can cause you to blow you motor if you don't do it perfect. I have seen plenty of blown motors of people who threw on a FMU and didn't properly retard timing. With how check Megasquirts can be done you really should not skip out on one, unless you have a very specific reason to not use one. IE you are building a lemons car and know exactly what you need to do to make the FMU work perfectly. It is knowledge that you gain from reading a ton, not something you would pick up from 5-10 minute youtube videos.

dj_spark 05-18-2016 02:43 PM

I know that for sure, I previously leave a honda forum because of a guy that was bragging that FMU was far superior to ecu mapping. His point was that it was used since decades around the world and have good result.
He had extended knowledge on building bottom end for boost application, but his fueling and advance management was from stone age : what a waiste... Those engine was so strong that even with his shitty "management" they would still run and he couldn't matter more.

As said in my welcome message I came here to learn a bit more (scratching the surface) because I need to know the thing in depth before starting doing it. I read everything, everywhere, watch YT videos, sort the good and the bad.

I guess in anything there are a few to take, in Greg's case I certainly didn't take the FMU !

1993z32 05-18-2016 04:52 PM

Just to clear the record, I'm aware I'm not doing anything "new", more just doing a cheaper version of a cheap turbo build style that's been around since I was driving a Cozy Coupe. I just wanted to offer it in a different form of media to get more information out there. That's another reason I feature plenty of other content besides the budget build. Are there things I would do different now? For sure, and I'll be doing a video about that as well. Some people don't understand that this build is a learning experience for me as well, not a "This is how you build a turbo Miata cheap and there's no other way" series. I'm glad when people take what I show them and come up with a better way of doing it. After putting some miles on the car I'm sure I'll discover firsthand what shortcomings it has. P.S. Love it or hate it, thanks for watching!

Dang man you got hoes in different area codes, first the $1 from sonofthehill and now this. How am I supposed to afford a big enough turbo to trap 112 if you're garnishing my wages? :2cents::vash:

aidandj 05-18-2016 05:25 PM

All these years of plotting and I finally get to be a part of the mt.net team. Even if it is junior varsity (1.6), I'll take it!

With or without the videos, people are going to run crap turbo setups. Do you really have THAT big of a problem with people running 150whp safely on FMU/Stock ECU setups? A lot of people (a LOTTTT) come to me with questions every single day about turbo setups, and I constantly recommend building the car the 'proper' way, the behind the scenes stuff that nobody else sees (although I'm sure you think my other car is crap too). I spend a ton of my free time giving out information that I took the time to learn here because a lot of people hate this place with a passion (even though they are missing out on a wealth of information). The sole mission of my YouTube channel is not building a crap turbo Miata; which is why I spend hours every week doing an array of other videos as well. My channel provides a friendly environment for people to come to for help on their builds, and give people confidence about working on their own cars. And to show people that you DON'T need 250whp, you DON'T need a 1.8, and you DON'T need a high dollar build just to have FUN. I learn from other people, from my own videos, from my own mistakes, and from my own wasted time and money to make an attempt at putting good information out to people. I've filmed and re-filmed multiple videos because I made a mistake because I take pride in the work I do. It's far from perfect and I know that. But making videos on YT to impress my friends? Get real.

Good day sirs,

Greg,
Your YouTube videos are entertaining and informative. You have saved me countless hours of research and mistakes. Plus the video format is good because you can "show us" what you are talking about, not just describing with words and/or pictures.
My 1.6 has a stubby nose crankshaft, and I have no idea how long it will last. So I didn't want to put too much into the build. But your videos made the job look easy, so I tried it
So, I for one am very grateful for your videos.
