Default turbo coolant feed

I've built myself a coolant reroute kit and completely plugged the front thermostat exit. To route coolant to the turbo, I'm planning on using the coolant feed port that's right next to the oil feed port (1.6L engine) under the exhaust manifold. I haven't seen anyone do this yet, is there a reason for that? Is it safe if I do so?
