Turbo discussion 400+hp
I'm trying to decide what turbo I need to get for my goals. I'm back and forth on what I should be running. I'm looking for decently quick spooling t3 turbo to get me to about 450 hp I've got my eye on a 3076r but should I go for a gt35r or a holset hx35? I've been looking at dyno results and build threads I'm looking for someone has some experience or played around on big turbo miatas!
I currently have 95 block and head
Skunk 2 intake manifold and 70mm tb
T3 log manifold
Je 9:1 84mm pistons
Scat rods
Exintake cam swap and gears
Super tech over size valves inconel exhaust and stainless intake
Super tech dual valve springs
Ls2 coils
Be oil pump
Acl race bearings
Ms2
Id1000

Have you ever ridden in, or driven a high powered Miata? Say 300whp+......
My goal when I started was 270ish. As it turned out I did things right and when it is all said and one I should be close to 400. I can't even imagine setting the goals on my first miata build above 400....my car is a beast at 300+. With a well built 300whp miata you should beat all 450whp miata's in 98% of real life situations. The smaller turbo is going to spool quicker and give you faster use of your power. Above 300 your limiting factor is rarely hp, it is usually traction. My advice, do more research. Find people in your area and ask for a ride to see how the different cars deliver their power.

i think soviet has about 400hp. he may be a guy to ask. dcvn also has very long lasting 3xx hp on stock engine. i know e85 is great to get a small 1.8 motor safely into 400hp range. but like they all say, maybe spend the money on better upgrades like a transmission because they go boom well below 300hp. your going to need very wide expensive rubber to get the power to the ground unless you just love loosing traction. im working on a budget build and will be ok with 300whp, i been in 2, 300whp miatas and thats about as fast as i want to be. the 300whp miata beat the super snake 500hp mustange and after my buddie did that i was looking on building my miata.

I currently own a little turbo Miata I picked it up already boosted so it's "stock" to me
Needless to say it's getting a little boring at 200ish hp and I don't like the way it was done. The only way for me to feel like I actually did something is a crazy build my way. I've ridden In or driven a few ~300hp ones there fast no dought. I just want to feel like I really did something and I'm a little nuts I guess. Gary The guy that owns track dog racing (There local for me) asked me if I was "******* retarded" in his office.

After driving my car with the new setup...I have ZZZZEEERRRRROOOOO Idea how you guys on street tires drive all these 300+hp Miatas. With 275's and on concrete...I can spin the tires at will. Even in 3rd gear you better be pointed somewhat straight if you want to just "nail" it. At the Blytheville Pro Solo practice course I wanted to play around and take a few runs with the racelogic turned off. There was a slight kink before the finish and from about 45-50mph I left two solid 275mm wide black marks from there through the finish. I know what my car makes...and I can tell you with 100% confidence it would be USELESS on street tires.

I mean the kid sounds clueless, just like the other 100000 people that asked this question before. The amount of people on here with 300whp miata's is not every high. Even less 350. 450 guys you can count on one hand.
Check the threads in the past year or two of the people that asked this question vs the people that completed 400+whp miata's.

Well yeah. It's not about him anymore.
It stopped being about him as soon as he mentioned the turbo choices he did and the theoretical motor build, both of which showed that he had done no research whatsoever prior to asking his question.

450hp is right around 375whp, which you could achieve with EFR 6258 and E85
From my experience the minimum list of parts for that is:
These parts are REQUIRED
Everything else you have on list, such as springs, valves, exhintake, throttle body - are nice but not nessesary. I made 450whp without any of those things and so can you! They will make your car more reliable, though.
If you want to make >400whp then swap out the EFR 6258 for 6758 and don't use DW300 pump.
From my experience the minimum list of parts for that is:
- Forged rods
- Forged pistons
- ARP main studs
- ARP head studs
- Billet oil pump
- 99+ head
- A good exhaust manifold
- A good intercooler
- Borg Warner EFR6258
- 3" downpipe exhaust, straight flow muffler
- DW300 or Walbro 450 E85 fuel pump
- 1000cc injectors, preferably Injector Dynamics
- Megasquirt or equivalent non-shitty ECU
- LS coils
- Some luck from the stock crank pulley (you need a lot of finesse to keep it from shearing) or preferably a SuperMiata or ATI Damper
- 6 speed tranny
- E85
- 25+ psi
These parts are REQUIRED
