---Nissan used to have a 1.8L top mounted I/C. The IC sat directly on the engine.---It's the I/C I use, I had to take it a part and rotate the tanks for it to be a FMIC...

Tell me where you got the piping for your IC set-up...looks pretty neat

You mean these?

Braineack 08-23-2006 08:14 PM

what engine bay is that?

Jefe 08-23-2006 08:20 PM

It's a Mazda engine bay...

BTW all my stuff comes from JCWhitney...Cheapest I can find (even cheaper then crinkle bends at the local parts store--otherwise I'd use them)

What kind of IC are u using
:bigtu:

Jefe 08-23-2006 08:49 PM

OK here's what you'll need:
You can do this without welding, but you'll need a few more hose clamps...
A saw for cutting metal; sawzall, grinder w/ metal cutoff wheel, chop saw w/ metal cutting blade(their only like $5 @ HD), hacksaw if you're that cheap.

From JCWhitney
3 2 1/2" 90 degee bends
1 2" 180 degree bend
2 2" 90 deg bend if you get the long 'legs' one, you'll have enough pipe
1 exhaust adaptor 2" to 2 1/4"

From Autozone
2" ID 90 bend radiator hose part#002482 s-531
2" ID 90+ other bend radiator hose part#885269 m-079

The input of the saab is 2 1/4" the output is 2 1/2"
Hose clamps- Ideal brand seem to work best

You'll have to source up some 2 1/2" rad hose --truck suppliers, most autostores sell it by the inch(it's used for to enclose fuel filler tubes)

RicanmiataRacer 08-23-2006 09:03 PM

thats stainless steel pipe correct

Jefe 08-23-2006 09:39 PM

I just used just the cheap 16ga stuff. After I welded and cleaned the pipes w/ spirits-- I placed them in an oven @ 400 degrees for ~ 15min. Then I put the pipes on a stick in the backyard and sprayed them with engine enamel Ford red. The paint adheres to the hot pipes real nicely-- you can coat as many times as you want...

My DP is stainless...

Also you'll need a 1 2 1/4" coupler (like 3" of rad hose) and tubing for you intake. IIRC I just used a 2 1/2" 180 u bend.

Are these measurements for in diameter or outer?

Jefe 08-23-2006 11:16 PM

Outside Diameter---That's exactly where and what I bought.

This may help you visualize a little. My list isn't exact. you'll need to add some pipe for the AIC valve and a BOV, but that only requires a 1" hole saw (a drill) some " black pipe(available @ any hardware store and some JB weld to seal it in place ;)

mmm link no worky here...

Now to make things simpler you can see why myself and a few other have chosen the intercooler I'm using:

Braineack 08-24-2006 01:25 PM

heh heh, I cheated I wasn't using MS paint but Adobe InDesign. It just happened to be the program I had open at the time.

RicanmiataRacer 08-24-2006 01:25 PM

Where did you get that cooler from?

RicanmiataRacer 08-24-2006 01:29 PM

Lmfao tricky basterd lmfao , jp , but thats cool ...I might look that program up, It looks useful

Braineack 08-24-2006 01:30 PM

It's more of a layout program (books, flyers, etc.), but shares the same tools as Adobe Illustrator; Which would have been the preferred program I would have used.
