IMHO, this is not the place to adjudicate a dispute over the condition of an item that has changed hands in a sales transaction. Besides, I will never be Judge Judy, I refuse to cross dress.
The original OP question concerned suitability to operate in a damaged condition. How the item got to the damaged condition is immaterial. Will it operate successfully is the question. OP has stated he is going to attempt to operate the damaged item, and will report the result. End of discussion until outcome is reported. Me I think the OP should plumb the turbine inlet to the outlet of a high powered leaf blower and attempt to spin the turbine wheel and observe the result before installing it on his car. |

Call Reed at Workturbochargers.com - he has plenty of wheels and might be able to rebuild/balance for cheap - wouldn't hurt to ask - just don't tell him I referred you - he might increase the price. :) If said compressor wheel explodes, are you willing to risk eating metal in cyclinders if it makes it that far?

You're kidding, right?

Leaf blower idea sounds great. After leaf blowering it you will have to also replace the bearings which will be wiped from spinning a few thousand rpms dry. At that point your question is more easily answered, NO you cannot use the turbo like that without causing problems.

you don't think what ever caused that damage did not impart a great deal of force along the long axis of the shaft?

Sent an email to ATP Turbo to see if they'll take a look at it. |
Final update:
After an email exchange, I have a Chinacharger on the way. The chinacharger's rotating assembly, compressor and turbine should all be compatible with the Garrett center housing. AHHH MAAAAH GAWWWD, garrett ball bearing chinacharger!!!! Stay tuned for a possibly even more epic solution! |
