Twin turbo Miata done, second time around
The original build thread here from last year was deleted by Philip. It was the same manifold and basic downpipe, but with GT1544's instead of the new GT1548's. It made 239 dynojet rwhp at 13psi at the second to last MT dyno day. Removed to do a sequential (GT2871 still for sale) and sold to Paul, lasted 7 miles before unknown internal object ate the rear turbine (front turbo fine and for sale too). He got a 2560 making 270+rwhp, I got cash and the opportunity to try larger turbos.
Besides the next larger & watercooled turbos, there's also a new much larger ebay intercooler (replacing starion) and intake manifold to round out the differences. There's build threads here on those, search if you care to see or ask here. I do this cause I like putting myself thru mental distress. Yes single turbos are better and far easier. I'm done building anything for a month or two. :bang: I STILL haven't driven it due to the crappy weather here in NJ. Hopefully tomorrow she'll come home. So I have no idea how much boost it makes (if any) or how much laggier it is. The old setup was un-laggy/instaspool. I have a splash guard for the BOV and undertray installed but not for the pics. EDIT: OH and the COPs...still got to wire them in. Thanks Lazzer! why the placement of the crossover pipe on the manifold? Seems to me that a manifold of that type acts more lika a pressurechamber anyway, have you had any diferent results? Just out of interrest. Quite cool setup, good way of showing off the fab skills :)

Sorry, just hp on that one. his would be the tallest one. just above mine :( note his power blows just about everyone away under 4000 rpm. |

Speaking of heat shield - where'd you get the sheet that makes up the current heatshield near the firewall? I've been looking for a place that sells decent heat shield material so I can fab up my own but the only stuff I've found is way to pricey.

smaller turbines, but much larger trim. what you might loose 100-200rpm of spool ;)
What i like is that, by my math, you put out 15 lb/min at redline through the exhaust...so about 7.5 lb/min each....the 1544's efficiency max was at 6.3 lb/min, the 1548's are at 8 lb/min....so they should make better hp per psi. they do look physically bigger in there...how long before two 2056s? |
