Unboxing my ChinaCharger

FedEx just arrived leaving me with my nifty new chinacharger - no shaft play, spins well, fit n finish looks good. Next I will take it apart and inspect it all.

Are the second two images not working for anyone else?

Have you verified dp flange fitment?

FRT_Fun 02-28-2012 07:18 PM

Also in to see if it has the offset downpipe bolt fitment. Also where did you get?

I re linked the images but they are still not showing - no biggie just pictures of the double box and warning sticker

Yes dp flange alignment is right on. I was worried about that!

impressive. Is this going on a known Garrett flange? Like something from Abe, FM, or Begi?

Using a cast BEGi, Xede, 550cc Inj, FM head w/ Oversized valves, Eagle H beams blah blah blah.... it's built

Us, he means. Tempted to order this, but at $400, I may as well go for a genuine turbo.

at that price I would not have bought one either - however from this same seller I bought a GT28 for 269 free shipping. he was out of stock so asked if he could send this instead @ the 269 price...

I'm glad to see it's a Godspeed, and even happier that it's journal bearing. If this was a china ball bearing unit, I would say "enjoy your first 200 miles, cause they're going to be your last 200 miles".

misfit77 02-29-2012 12:00 AM

Compared to the Begi JDMSport turbo....I like Begi more.

Seems to be a consensus that Godspeed - journal bearing is the way to go when attempting a cheap chinacharger. = This noob searched!!

It looks like you are going under the lights with the inter-cooler piping? I haven't seen too many like this but it made sense to me also.

gixerphil 03-03-2012 08:49 PM

Hey guys, I am currently running a JRSC M45 and am thinking about going turbo. This is a link to a Godspeed on Amazon, is it junk?
I have a OBX header that seemed to be of good quality, could the same be said for their turbo manifold?
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OBX-Racing-T...item1e6b1d1b9e

I notice that some of the (Greddy) have the oulet horizontal vs this one being at an angle. What difference does this make in deciding what turbo to buy and differences in installation?

Any and all thoughts and help on this stuff is appreciated.

curly 03-04-2012 12:20 AM

The turbo looks fine, no promises on the dp flange fitting, but it looks fine. The manifold is junk. The difference between a header and a manifold is the manifold needs to support the weight of the turbo, so the design needs to be better and stronger than a cheap header.

viperormiata 03-04-2012 01:03 AM

whats up with the elephant man compressor housing?

Miater 03-04-2012 01:49 AM

It's ftw.

kruze 03-08-2012 05:07 PM

keep it goin!

romanservices 03-17-2012 11:36 PM

took me long enough but the turbo is in the car. Sorry fro the crappy pictures it was dark out when I took them with my phone. Ignore the funky oil feed line, I could not use my origional setup due to different threads so I came up with this for a temp solution.

DP fit fit perfect!!

lol I said to ignore that it's temp...

18psi 03-18-2012 12:24 AM

ok gotcha. didn't read just looked at pics:giggle:

huskybruiserjr 03-18-2012 03:01 PM

i read but still dont like lol because all gearheads know you never like doing things twice so temporary turns to permanent and then it breaks

maxrpm 03-23-2012 05:31 PM

how is it running so far.... I'm a bit scared to buy Chinacharger....

romanservices 03-23-2012 05:46 PM

I've only started it and checked for leaks. I'm waiting for my wide band to come in before I start the tune. Next weekend will be the test. Perhaps I may get to drive it this year

C_MONEY 03-23-2012 10:48 PM

keep up the good work man

gixerphil 03-30-2012 08:43 PM

So, is there any progress to report? Having no prior turbo experience, I too am curious about how this chinacharger performs and lasts.

The bung needs to be sticking straight up. So you should have no clearance issues with it. If it is not straight up then water drops can accumulate on it and cause damage.

romanservices 03-31-2012 11:55 AM

yeah... I'm heading out now to get a new one welded in up top. who ever welded this one on was doing it wrong...

romanservices 06-23-2012 09:35 PM

Update: it's not blown up yet. have had the turbo for a while now. still holding up. no oil leaks, hitting boost just fine. I finally got a decent base tune in my xede so I can start pushing it harder.
