V Band Questions

I think I know the Tial V-band housing is so you can use V-band to the exhaust housing/DP, but what do you need to go vband from the manifold to the turbo?

Thanks

a V-band clamp!

You don't need a spcial intake housing?

WonTon 07-12-2010 04:53 PM

by intake housing you mean compresor housing? no you dont. however when you buy the Tial exhaust housing (your literally buying only the housing) you need to buy the necessary v-band flanges and clamps as well as new hardware to mount your CHRA to the Tial housing and from what i have been told by the experts here (they need to be safety-wired as well)

Its a special tirbine housing that ha vbands on the inlet and outlet, which is unusual. usually when people are talking v-bands its just on the DP

You should just call Tim and have him explain what you get for the money since he's a tial dealer and you'll give him your money, and like it.

What's two clamps (housing and dp) and the housing add up to? And you may lol, but do china chargers bolt up?

eh?

the housing has a vband in and out on it.

you will need a manifold side vband and clamp as well as the downpipe side outlet and clamp. the 3" atp vband i had on my last downpipe was bigger and wouldnt have worked with the tial so you NEED the tial stuff.

the clamps iirc are 49$ each and the manifold and downpipe flanges are 36$ each.

if you upgrade a new turbo from atp turbo the housings are only 100$ additional for a t2 turbo. but to buy them new alone they are mid 300's

That's what I was looking for, thanks.

Assuming that is yours, was it all worth the money?

shlammed 07-12-2010 07:07 PM

yep... 2871R spools the same as a 2860. both turbos are 0.86 on the same manifold downpipe and engine.

jbrown7815 07-12-2010 07:10 PM

I've been planning on going with a 2860rs, so you're saying a 2871 spools the same? How?

Same hot site, similar performance, but the prime delta or whatever on the compressor map is lower. You get an exponential increase in output as you raise boost until you hit prime...so the sweet spot in the 2860rs is lower, and that works for what I'm doing.

Anyone care to elaborate? Is this a necessity for all, or just for the track sluts?

Also interested to know if anyone tried mating a Tial housing to a chinacharger? Or people's thoughts as to why it should/should not work...

Ive never seen the bolts back out of the CHRA, but I suppose it can happen with track cars. So I wouldnt bother unless its a track car, and even then I doubt its a common problem.

as far as the chinacharger deal, I find it unlikely that you could find a chinacharger that even used the same size turbine wheel, and even then it probably wouldnt bolt up to the CHRA

hustler 07-12-2010 10:05 PM

It's foolish to not use inconel safety wire on a $450 CHRA, and I speak from experience. The wire is $20 and $20 to get a machinist to drill them. I've also run an entire season and never put a wrench on the motor or turbo...do it once, do it right.

QFT!

cause if im spending this much on one part for my turbo that cost half of what my turbo is worth and or as much as i paid for it, i will definitely be adding safety wire for the added protection.

TonyV 07-13-2010 07:03 PM

I guess what I'm getting at has more to do with trying to fit a chinacharger with a tial vband housing...

I have a china on the way, and was really planing to measure the turbo, order the appropriate sized housing and try and mate together...

If/when I find myself on the track, I'd likely be upgrading quite a few things as this is not a track built vehicle..

Haven't seen much on here about why it would or would not work...
