Do only Volvo turbos have that strange rounded exhaust flanged?

Or did Ford Tbirds come with it too?

volvo has there own turbo flanges.

ford t3 manifold to turbo flange stay t3 while the turbine housing to downpipe flange are slightly different then regular t3

IIRC you can just machine the lip down and it'll bolt up to a standard T3

or you can weld on the volvo flange:

ATP also sells an adapter.

Would machining make the flange super thin? Prone to cracking?

This is what Gpop said:

Thank you for your interest. Your turbo has a Ford compressor housing and
a Volvo turbine housing. So, it has been modified at some point and there
would not be anyway of telling what seal you have without taking it apart
first. We will attach the rebuild instructions to this email. Follow these
and take it apart and then we can determine what seal you need. Let us
know if you have any other questions or if you need anything else. Thank
you,

Why would someone do this? ^^^

Wouldn't the adapter, since it's not cast, expand at different rates and cause leakage?
