Voodoo box or Megasquirt?
So Im contemplating engine management. Im building my own turbo kit and hoping for 200hp. What would be the finally cost to get an ms system running and how hard are they to tune. I am experiance with hondata and utec. Im thinking the fm voodoo box because its easy to use and fairly cheap at 415.00. what is your guy's experiance?

I'm going to be selling my voodoo box and installing MSI in my '99.
The voodoo box is a bandaid solution for people that want to run stock fueling(injectors) and limits them to 8psi. Megasquirt will let you do whatever you want without limits basically. You'll be able to install larger injectors and run more boost safely to reach your horsepower goal while eventually having a better tune than the Voodoo will ever give you. The tuning capability of the voodoo box is very limited and not worth $415. If you were to get something like the Voodoo i would get the PC-Pro instead. |
shit for that money I'd rather get an EMU or at least an EMB
|
The VooDoo Black box is basically a glorified ELF (that actually works) or a JRPC.
I agree with Fritch that for that kinda money, you can buy a EMB/EMU. Or, if you feel adventurous, how about the new PC Pro? |
its a 99. I forgot to metion that. do any of you have links to some of these other systems? I appreciate the feedback. just figured out that emb was emanage. the car was really unhappy on that. I ended up selling it. what is the pc pro?

Go with the MS.. tons and tons of documentation on here and active members that can help you get it right.
|
pc pro = powercard pro
|
Really depends on how much futzing you are willing to do. MS is much more capable, but still needs to get some bugs worked out. I think the MS is the "better" option, however, it is certainly not the "easiest" option if you catch my drift.

ZOMGZ!!!111!!!111! Megasquirt FTW!!!1111!!

the MS has far more capability and it will cost you about the same if you assembly it and only slightly more if you buy pre-assembled. I havn't added up my totals yet but I think I'm at around $450 after buying all the sensors, connectors, wiring, extra crap I forgot to take off my order, etc etc. If you are frugal and plan right you could MS for about $400.

after talking to tom Im going to try out the pc-pro. thanks everyone.

can you run bigger injectors with the pc pro?

The PC-pro can support his HP goals, as a former JRPC user, I would go that way again. (what is easier then soldering 6 wires?) The disadvantage is timing control, IIRC FM sells a wheel to modify the CAS on the NB's, but that will retard timing all the time. The other option is to add a J&S but that's $$$$ (but cheaper than a new motor). |
DIY autotune quoted me $560 for a box where all I have to do is hook up wires and tune.
Ms is kinda strange how it uses VE to tune, but I don't know that much to begin with. For $160 more you get full on stand alone...no brainer. |

I would look at the Xede ($1000 w/o injectors). Twice the cost of the pcpro, but it's an entire solution. |

Yeah but there is still no exede for 1.6's that sucks.
