Default Voodoo Box with Timing Management Device?

Anyone knows if the Voodoo box could be combined with a timing management device such as MSD or Bipes to achieve both fuel management and timing management on a 1.6 miata?

Why would you do this instead of just getting an EMB which is cheaper than the Voodoo Box alone?

of course it could.

But the question is, if you're going to spend that much money, why not go with a better solution?

EMB plus necessary accessories would cost the same but takes more time to install and most importantly, to tune. Voodoo plus MSD or bipes would be easy to install and you forget about them once they are there. With an IC, the voodoo can be used up to 8 psi, and with the bipes it might even do better.

I don't know if the Voodoo works on a 1.6???

If it does, then yes you can, I ran the Bipes with the PC for a couple of years on my 96. It was a very simple install and not alot to adjust (you can only adjust A/F by the wastegate too rich = add boost , too lean = less boost

I bought both mine new, $400 for the PC and $200 for the Bipes. I had the Bipes for three years, sold it $185, the PC for 2 years, sold it for $150... So the Bipes is basically a wash. if you can get the PC/Voodoo for a good used price then go for it.

Otherwise a EMB and WBO2 can be set up for ~$500 (EMB, DIY harnesses,Map, LC-1, & some used injectors)

Looks like FM is selling it for 1.6 miata, but will check with them. By the way, what is the PC that you refer to? (May be a stupid question)

The PC is the Power Card. (Alias JRPC) Lengthens pulse widths under boost. Originally Jackson Racing came out with it.

BRP picked it up for their kits and also sold it separately. The Voodoo was designed by the same people that designed the PC, so they are very similar.

Now The PC is sold by FFS with some 'tweaks' (Some of the same tweaks the Voodoo offers)

The Voodoo has the O2 clamp built in, which depending upon year, may or may not be a big deal (that and @ what RPM the car is actually in boost v. open loop)

Did you run bigger injectors with these two?

Not with the PC. But you would have no issues running 230's w/ the 1.6.

You could also run an afpr wiht the voodoo to get even more fuel, that's essentially how EMB/vortech users do it.

I have run bigger injectors with the Bipes (SAFC +330's+ AFPR + Bipes)

Using a BEGI AFPR and Bipes is a great inexpensive way to start as well. The AFPR doesn't get the press it deserves, but on a base setup it certainly is a great way to start. IIRC I bought my AFPR used, after a couple of years sold it for 20 or 30 bucks more than I had paid for it.

One of my friends has an original Aerodyne setup w/ the original BEGI AFPR and it still works great.(I think it's at least 8yrs old?)

I originally ditched mine because the second fuel pump was too loud for me...

If your budget is ~500 or more, you should really look at the EMB and maybe autotune, or model your setup after someone else so you can at least start with their map..

Forget what I just said...Oh yeah... you can run up to 330's on the stock ecu w/ 1.6, you have to adjust your VAF/flapper to compensate at idle, so w/ the Voodoo you would have some potential for at least 108RWHP Add a turbo maybe a little more

Here is a little math I did - Voodoo box costs the same as the begi AFPR and the pierburg fuel pump that came with my turbo kit. It takes less time to install it, not noisy as the pierburg would be, and according to FM, could be used to support more boost with an IC.

However, I was not planning on adding the AFPR to the voodoo.

I plan or running the voodoo with the bipes. I will keep everyone informed on how it goes.

PC + bipes when I first got boost too.....

It worked well.... it was good for day to day drivability.

I would say, start withouth the AFPR though, it gets real complicated to think about fuel pressures, etc.... <G>

Make sure you do very solid connections for the bipes and the PC into the harness... I had them come loose one day.... car wouldn't start. Took some time to troubleshoot.
