My turbo kit that my girlfriend bought me for out 5 year anniversary! (Is'nt she awesome?) Just put it on this weekend. The turbo is a .50 trim with a .36 back boosting at 6psi. Turbo spool starts at around 2800 rpm's, The kit that I put together consists of:

AiResearch Turbo - $550
Cast Mani - $120
Tial Wastegate w/ 6 psi spring - $230
HKS SSQV BOV - $160
SS Oil lines - $35
OBX 10:1 FMU - $35
Intercooler - $40
Piping kit and couplers - $100
Misc. Bolts and fitting - $100
----------------------------------------
Shipping and Handling Charges - $100
----------------------------------------
Grand Total - $1435

TRY AND GET ALL THAT FROM BEGI OR FM AND YOU WOULD PAY $3000+

All the flanges I made myself in the shop that I work in and I had my own welder to make my downpipe and the weld everything up!

Alum Radiator, Plate for above the radiator to fill the gap, brake fluid change, megasquirt and wideband 02 get added when I get my income tax check!

What do you guys think for my first build?

m2cupcar 02-09-2010 09:11 PM

How much does all the tools in the machine and the welder cost?

Cspence 02-09-2010 09:12 PM

Looks like it'll get the job done....not the prettiest though...

Diablovt750 02-09-2010 09:14 PM

The welder I have at my job and I had all the tools already because I am a mechanic

My old turbo kit that im selling right now is 1400$ and comes with full 3" exhaust and the intercooler pipes are welded together( aluminum). Not my cup of tea but kudos on the DIY aspect.

I sold my greddy with 3" dp and exhaust for $700 and helped my friend install it. But anyways welcome to the forum.

Just one question comes to mind, how are you going to tell if your running rich or lean in boost?

rweatherford 02-09-2010 10:37 PM

Looks like a good start!

18psi 02-09-2010 10:38 PM

There is no replacement for DIY.

Hi, I'm currently piecing together a similar low boost diy setup to start out with and was also going to go the fmu but had a question. How did you pick 10:1? I've seen 1,8,10 and 12:1. Which one is best?

Pen2_the_penguin 02-10-2010 01:31 AM

is that a water coupler from home depot on your intake to the intercooler? That has to be changed, it will dry rot and you will have debris and boost leak everywhere on that. It cannot take engine bay temperatures amd is solid rubber, so it is very vulnerable to oil and other engine fluids.

nevermind

Savington 02-10-2010 02:35 AM

Where's your wideband?

turotufas 02-10-2010 06:09 AM

:giggle: I think your girl just wants to drive your car.

Braineack 02-10-2010 09:12 AM

Detail shots of wastegate. more details on turbo.

Good to hear that you're going to spring for real engine management with all that money you saved.

Diablovt750 02-10-2010 10:24 AM

The fmu is a temp until I get the MS, so I bought which ever that I could find the cheapest! That one I bought from someone on clubroadster.net for $30 (reg. price $99) and yes that is a rubber water hose from home depot. I needed to find something to get me driving b/c this is my DD. The silicon hose is already in the mail. But as far as the fmu I think an 8:1 would be best b/c after 5000 rpm the exhaust starts to smell like gas so Im assuming it is making me to rich, but id rather be to rich for now instead of being to lean! Probably going to buy my LC-1 WideBand this weekend.

curly 02-11-2010 11:18 PM

I like it. Beyond the HD coupler, ghetto brackets, and lack of MS of course. But you're planning on replacing all of those. Mad props from one over-the-rad'er to another.
