If you take the sanding method, remember to spray primer or something similar to show the uneven spots. I did this for my T2 flange on a home go-kart project.

Most engine machine shops have a really nifty horizontal grinder that can flatten an eight inch warp in a millisec. AND, it is flat. Of course, you'll get charged an hour's labor, but ........
