if you are solid lifter i dont see 8K as a problem a hydraulic cam might flaot a valve up there for to long though.

The problem with the OE solid lifter set up is the weight of the shims. Shim on bucket is bad for high rpm- shim under bucket is what you want. But you don't see that on OE cars because of the difficulty in setting valve lash- it's a lot more work. I'd say 7500- but you really need to see what kind of power you're making up there too.

oil pump gears tend to frag around 8K if i recall.... that's not cool.
