WU TANG MFers!!!! 3" exhaust installed
3" exhausts rock your face off.
Well, guess the next most important thing to ask. Is it quiet enough for you?
no. but it's liveable. I trust with a resonator and a cat it'd be fine. I'm also used to it not making any noise at all. Cruise is nothing, up hills could be a tad quiter, but the growl it makes when WOT is toally badass.
sad thing is i was peaking something like 17psi with the same tune (was topping out at 13.8psi before) and i blew a coupler and it killed it, so technically im N/A for a few days (2" 90*) which totally sucks balls. what can ya do?! :dunno: |
duct tape
tried it. failed on the drive home. problem is the coupler acutally ripped, i guess i tightened the t-clamp too much and it cut into it.

pics or :gtfo:
+1 pics. how does one "add" a resonator after the exhaust is installed, you have a straight pipe for the cat and another straight pipe for the resonator?
There is no resonator, drop off car at exhaust shop, they take their magic wand to it, voila, you have a res welded in.
Werd. Local guys welds anything you want in for $20 and 20 minutes, cash only.
I'm proud of you Brain.
worthless with out photos
My 6" tip makes twice as much power as your 3" exhaust.
*edit* because it's bigger *edit* |
I got pics I forgot to download them. Will get soon. Gotta show you my failed coupler too.
looks good, did you do it yourself? shop? friend? Mine sits a bit lower than yours, one of these days im gonna rework it to not sit as low.
got any scrap pieces left over that I can use between my turbo inlet and air filter? Like maybe a 45* or a 90*?
Pretty sure it's an Enthuza built piece, he just had him use the Magnaflow muffler instead.
looks nice.
noah, what scrap you need? |
Why did you go with the Magnaflow over the Silverline? My Silverline is not loud at all, mabye as loud as a stock STI.

once i fix the coupler. |
I am sorry I broke your coupler. I blame it on u leaving early and not helping me finish my turbo. But the gods have humor and I am driving around shooting air out my turbo jsut like you.
nice! glad to here to got it finished up!!!
here's the said coupler: https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...exhaust001.jpg and here's my favorite part, the 2.75" to 3" test pipe to match my DP. https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...exhaust005.jpg |
very nice
Is the coupler a angled coupler? if not then a peice of radiator hose should get you back on the raod. +1 on the sound clips beigna major requirement. ;)
no it's a 90*, otherwise it would be fixed already. I'm running it as is untill the replacement arrives, no biggie. My drive isn't far to work and I'm running a map sensor so the biggest worry is running unfilter air, which i dont really care about.
Really like the test pipe...very slick.
I had Jason weld up the same thing for me, but in a 2.5"-3" transition instead. So our exhausts are nearly identical but I didn't specify the magnaflow can.

watch laying into the throttle, you can overspin the turbo since it will never see high enough to open the wastegate, better off if you're gonna drive it open the wastegate somehow
i forgot, ill be wiring the wastegate open as well. thanks for the reminder. |
gettho is nice...

how did the transition into boost feel. Was it ridiculously faster? After upgraded from 2.25 with glass pack and muffler to 2.5 and only 2 small resonators it spooled soo much faster!
I hope your muffler doesn't make your tires HOT.

the coupler:
https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...exhaust006.jpg https://www.miataturbo.net/~web1_bra...exhaust007.jpg my theory is: since i cut it so short, it had no room to wiggle & flex as needed. that and i campled down my t-clamps very tight (extermely) and dug into the silicone enough that when the engine torqued up it started eatting into it. Combined with the ultra power of my 3" exhaust, it was just a diasater waiting to happen ;) |
i like ultra power :bigtu:
what kind of coupler is that anyway? it looks pretty meaty, i mean i know its a 2" silicone, but it looks kinda weired...where did you get that one |
just a typical 4-ply silicone coupler. I believe it's actually an OBX branded one.
the rain is preventing me from getting a good log, but with my MBC backed off a bit, i was still logging 16psi....talk about the last exhaust being a restriction. |
Gunna Dyno that biatch to give us real numbers between what you were using last time and what you have now? Love to know everything you changed between then and now and see what the gains are!
+1 for Sound clip! |
nice sig. also nice wheelspin at redline.
finally got the old pics i took during the install to compare to the old exhaust:

Exhaust systems are beautiful works of art. I think I am going to run mine on top of my car instead next time.
I wish I lived closer because I have this incredible urge to clean your wheels. No inuendo intended. |

How much space is there for wiggle room with a 3" |
Is that stainless? The weld areas (on the test pipe particularily) look spraypainted or something.
Also, is the tip touching the bumper? Looks a little offset, might be the angle of the camera? |
no aluminumized (im cheap remember). the exhaust is perfectly centered, in the pic I only have the muffler hanging there.
there's about .5" of wiggle room around the diff's stub shaft flange and enough room around the ppf. |
looks good, the borla looks way to complex, it needs a diet!
is the new exhaust any louder? but i like the new one much better |
